Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

New chain really quieted my drivetrain.

I have been upgrading most of the major components on my bike to full Ultegra,
Brakes, front and rear derailleur, crank. The bike originally had mixed Shimano and SRAM drivetrain components.
The bike ran nice and was pretty quiet. Very little cackle coming from the rear deraileur area, however when I switched from the cheap entry level chain to the Mavic (rebadged Wipperman) the bike became silent!!! I cannot here anything. This is the way I like my bikes. Quiet as can be.

I doubt it was due to the brand of chain, though that's a possibility. When I switched out my chain (exact same one), it too became suddenly silent on me. It's probably due to the lack of dirt, and no wear on the pivots.

I agree about the brand of chain, I think it was the quality as this was replacing a chain that was almost brand new on a new bike. Less than 300 miles. Went from 8 speed cheap chain to 10 speed good quality chain. I am much happier.
