Alias v Toupe, help me decide
Will I gain much by moving up to the Toupe from the Alias?
I picked up an Alias from my LBS this past Saturday. I really wanted the Toupe but they didn't have my size (143). Beyond looks, I liked the extra flex compared to the Alias and the smoother finish instead of the two pads on the Alias (freer movement on the saddle).
I took the Alias out for a quick 20 miler on Saturday eve and 53 miles on Sunday. It seemed fine. I had a little pain in the sit bones on the long ride but I guess thats natural. The LBS offered to swap it when they get more Toupes. With this in mind, is it worth the extra $35-40 it would cost me to make the swap or is vanity getting the best of me?

hey crummyrider,
I own both the Alias and the Toupe. I use the Alais on my trainer and use the Toupe on my race bike. I personally like the Toupe better. I get less numbness (sit bones and perienal region) and the toupe is a lot lighter and just plan sexy! Is it worth 35-40 bucks more?... for me it is...... I don't want to be buying viagra in 20 years at 10 bucks a pill! YAMV

I went from an Avatar as well... the Toupe is a much better saddle for me. It is WAY lighter and it was actually more comfortable for me. My new bike came with an Alias... I traded that baby for another Toupe.

I rode yesterday for the first time (short 20 miles ride though) on the new Toupe, felt very good. That body geometry really works. With the previous saddle I had I felt some numbness on my crotch, my d...k would go numb at times. With this Toupe I didn't need to stand up on the pedals to relief pressure every once in a while. It works well in combination with a good padded shorts.

I also had the Toupe and really liked it untill I did the grizzly Peak century. It killed my set bones there is very little padding. I was sore for a week after . I think it is a great saddle unless you do a lot of climbing then I dosn't work for me. Might work for you.

I liked it until I did a 70miler on it after that my sit bones where killing me for a week. I have since switched to the alias and so far so good.

Went from a Alias to Toupe. Toupe works much better for me. Alias was ok, but the Toupe got rid of any other nagging issues I had (some numbness, sore after long rides). I have several rides on it over 60 miles...works really well for me.

I've only had my Toupe for a week or so, and my longest ride was maybe 25 miles, and probably put 100 on it altogether. After the 25 miles I was a little sore compared to the Avatar gel. Sunday I've got a 100-miler, and I'll probably swap the Avatar back until I've got a few more miles on the Toupe.

+1 I can definitely feel the difference when I wear my older sheaper Nalinis compared to my newer and more expensive bibs. A good pair of bibs can be worth their weight in gold on a long hot summers ride.
