Chain question
Is there any such thing as a 10 speed chain? If so, are there any issues with using it in conjunction with a 9 speed cassette?
Reason I ask is an LBS replaced my stock chain with an Ultegra model. Another LBS said my shifting issues were dues to a 10 spd chain on a 9 spd cassette.

Yes there is such a thing as a 10spd chain. 10spd chains are narrower than 9spd chains to help with the closer cog spacing on a 10 spd cassette.
As for using a 10spd chain on a 9 spd cassette ther should be no problems.

If you describe your "shifting problems" we could probably diagnose your problem.

Thus, you can use a "9-speed" chain with a 7-speed or 8-speed system, or a "10-speed" chain with a 9-speed system. Since the chains designated for more gears are usually more expensive and don't last as long, this is not the ideal approach, but it's perfectly workable
