Is this carbon frame any good?
Being a self confessed ludite, I admit not knowing much about carbon. Is this really any good. https://bikesdirect.com/products/wind...irk_carbon.htm
Their price for a complete bike is less than most framesets. Thanks for any input.

That Windsor does seem like a super deal. And, it probably is. I know a person in my YMCA who has the carbon Motobecane and likes it fine. I have not ridden it but, the bike looks nice. It does not look like some cheap Chinese knock-off - whether it is or not.

I thought most of these bikes are Taiwanese. Looks like the lugged carbon. I never understood why they would lug carbon but I'm sure it's strong as long as the glue holds.

There have been many threads on the moto- Whereswaldo is one who has purchased it and did a fairly comprehensive write-up. It's been getting good reviews by those who bought it. The white one seems to have a pearl finish to it which is nice.
The Windsor was on sale at the begining of the month but I have yet to see any reviews or find out who's purchased one. If I recall correctly, someone picked one up but I have not seen a report. It reminded me of Leopard and another (can't think of it right now) with the lugged carbon.
Carbon bars, most people seem to tape around the brifters and stop before the flat top portion.

At my local Giant dealer (in Silicon Valley), you can get the TCR Limited on sale for $1495. It comes with a mix of Ultegra and non-Shimano parts. That Giant looks like the best buy around right now.

Windsor made Al frames and steel for some time. My first road bike was a Windsor Al frame with carbon front fork. Bought it new at bikesdirect for $500 with all entry level componetry. Did fine but sold it to a co-worker to get my Trek and now my Pedal Force full carbon.
I think what you will find is that there are only a hand full of bike frame manufacturers and companies buy from them and logo the bikes how they wish. Just an assumption but probably very accurate. So with that, I say it is probably just as good as any out there for the most part minus maybe the high end components.
It is not like cigars I imagine where floor scrapings in Havana are then rolled into el-cheapo's for the factory workers and for those not wanting to pay primo price for long leaf filler! In other words, you don't take spare carbon fiber pieces and remold to a full vat to make a el-cheapo frame.

Well, I just said I was thinking about it. Only if I don't have to sell any of my steel bikes. It gets lonely riding and being the only steel bike out there. Even my own brother dumped his trusty steel steed for an aluminum Trek a few years ago. Consider it morbid curiosity. Rad55 is basically a steel guy but I think he has something with a little carbon on it.
It might look familiar because the Look 585, or whatever it's called, has a similar appearance.

Not the same, but both are lugged, and I'm pretty sure the folks at Look know what they're doing..

I'm thinking I should stay with my good steel steed.
