Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The continental gatorskin has been pretty bulletproof for the southern california rides.

I'm sure of the weight, but I've been using the Vittoria Rubino Pro's this last year, and so far, no flats... I might jsut be lucky though.. but they roll well... not super expensive either.. I think I got them for like $20 each at the LBS... Lemme know what you decide on.. It might be time for a new pair soon...

While we're on the subject of light tires and flats...

What tubes offer the best compromise between light weight and flat resistance?
I'm asking because I've gotten lotsa flats with Specialized Turbo Ultralight tubes, in spite of Continental Grand Prix 3000 tires (on a 700c hybrid used for road riding).

BTW, most of these flats are of the snakebite variety, even though I keep the tires at 100-120 psi and don't go jumping curbs or otherwise subject them to impact forces.

I have Continental Grand Prix 3000. No problems yet and many miles. (210g according to Conti's website )

If the price is too high for your budget I've had pretty good service from Conti Ultra 2000 (220/270g) and Vittoria Rubino Pro Kevlar (210g).
