What I've learned from Bike Forums ...
Well, I am pretty new here. There sure is a lot to take in. So far, I've learned that ...
1. Steel is:
real
obsolete
for Clydesdales.
2. My (fill in name of Bicycle manufacturer here):
sucks
is made in Taiwan and therefore a piece of overpriced crap
is made in Taiwan and therefore an incredible value/
way better than those expensive European brands with names that end in vowels
3. I know that my bike is better than more expensive Italian ones because:
it's what Lance rides

Nobody ever says their bike sucks. They say it's the best bike they have ever owned and that you should buy one because it's fabulous. Nobody ever says "This was a stupid purchase and I just wasted my money on a fad bike that I got talked into by someone on Bikeforums that said "This is the best bike I have ever owned, and you should get one too because it's fabulous."".

I bought a 4 year old NOS steel frame because the price was right and its a good frame, but what I really wanted was a C-50 which I consider to be the real ****e. I doubt I'll ever have a C-50.

Things I've learned on Bikeforums:
1. Places to eat a lot for less than $2 in NYC.
2. Brooks saddles.
3. Banana bread recipes.
That's about it.

I've learned that people who ask for other people's opinions don't always want them.

I've learned that the public school systems around the world have a lot of work to do in the spelling and grammar departments.

What I've learned from Bike Forums ... is that asking for advice as to gruppo brand choice is akin to attempting to solve the Great Schisim.

1. That diets engender as much or more passion than religion.
2. That cyclists are more cliquish than WASP women at a church dinner.
3. That I have quit asking for too much advice because I have no idea what it is worth.
4. I have learned some funny people post here.
5. That I have a unique ability to kill threads. I must be the guy everyone is avoiding at the party... hmmm.....

Things I learned at bike forums
1. Bike racers are dopers, even when proven otherwise
2. If you ride a popular bike, that bike sucks
3. Lance is an idiot and sucks
4. Everyone will chastise you before they help you
5. Everyone on bike forums is a professional racer because they say so
6. A silly red star will increase your speed and decrease lactic acid production

i've learned that alot of posters are experts on physics, calculus, rolling resistance, aerodynamics, or other highly complicated scientific ideas related to cycling... but no one is actually employed by frame or component manufacturers, or works for a professional bike team
