POSSIBLY the best bike for the money!

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Another bike from the CycleSpectrum/Bikes Direct family of E-Bay scam stores. The same 'ol method.
A new member. A first post with a direct link to their web site.

Over the past two years, there have been 90 or a hundred threads started by new members who claim they just bought the "bestest bike for the money" and include a direct link to the seller. Of those 100 threads, all but a handful have been links to BikesDirect. It astounds me that about half of our members continue to take this company and its employess seriously.

Here in Houston, the BikesDirect company has about twenty employees. Two or three of them spend most of their time handling internet promotions and sales. So, about eighty hours a week goes into creating a "buzz" for Motebecane, Windsor, etc., etc., getting folks to think these are actual bike companies sold in actual bike stores.

Both Nashbar and Performance sell "house brand" bikes as well. But both are honest about the fact that these are housebrand bikes. Legitimate prices are posted. Performance does not claim its bike has a "list price" of $2,000 and that it is "on sale" for $800. They just say "this is our $800 model" and they sell it for $800. Nor does Performance sell its bikes under ten different E-Bay names to create the illusion that their bikes have a vast dealer network. Nor does Performance create phony promotional threads here at Bike Forums.

I do admire the owner of BikesDirect though. Cannondale, Trek, and Specialized spend millions of dollars sponsoring race teams and sponsoring cycling races and supporting a variety of cycling events to promote their brands. And, the guys at BikesDirect just need a computer and "BikeForums" to promote their bikes for free. Ethics, smessics, free advertising is free advertising.

(A) Gotta raise the BS flag on this one again. It just follows too closely the pattern set by previous threads touting the incredible deal they got on their Moto/Mercier/etc.

(B) That said, this is genius! Throw one of these threads up, and it's always good for at least three pages of replies. Any attention is good attention, and BD always gets a lot of attention. Hat's off to you guys!

Cheers.

I can't beleive nobody has brought up that Bottechia has no dealers in the USA. At least from what I can tell from the website.

Correct me if I am wrong.

Stick with it, tell us about your rides and your progress, don't be afraid to ask questions about fine tuning your fit or technique, and we'll all have a good laugh about this in short time.

You've obviously come to understand why everyone assumed you were a shill, and the name connection is priceless. While there are a lot of people that scream on BD for their retail price claims, there are many more that feel that BD is great for either 1. buying a decent bike at a low price, or 2. getting a decent component group to build up another frame which they have. It's not that people hate of look down on BD overall, it's the one-hitters that come and tell us how wonderful their new BD bike is.

You're legit? Great, my sincere apologies. I look forward to hearing about your success, and any problems, with the bike. The brand isn't well known in the US, and it probably is only related in name to the Italian bikes, but it still might very well be a decent bike.

Do you sell the frame or keep it as a spare?

Wow, I have only recently gotten a couple of Performance sale flyers in the mail, and they list both the MSRP as well as the actual selling price. I am sure that others here have received those same flyers.
