Bought my 9 yr old daughter a Trek 3700 MTB the other night. Moved her up from the $29 WallyWorld special and she was thrilled. She is little for her age and the bike is one she'll be able to use for many years. We went to a local rail-trail (2 miles...ya, its short, but all we've got for now) last night and she did over 8 miles with me. We averaged about 9 mph and she couldn't wait to get home and tell mom all about her adventure (we had to stop a few times to try to catch the baby bunnies alongside the trail)
I was impressed with this..she got the switching gears thing down in no time, got used to the handbrakes and rode without complaining...even telling me she wanted to do another 4 miles, but it was getting dark. We have another ride scheduled for tomorrow. Probably 10 miles or so. Anyone have a child this age riding with them? I don't plan on taking her out on the road, but it's going to be hard to find paved areas that are interesting and long enough to get a ride in on.
Proud dad braggin' on his kid.

And in a few years a Ciocc and a stage in the Tour de Feminine.
