Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

What year is this Shimano 105 Groupset

Hi Everyone...I've tried all sorts of searches, but just can't figure out the year of this groupset. Thinking about building up a bike. Any help would be appreciated.

im suspect. 8 speed and its only done 1500 miles?
Look at the filth on the cassette and chain. It takes me longer to accumulate crime like that. - not that I let it get to that stage.

Also be aware there is no crank and bottom bracket. A crank (off pbk im no shill, just a cheap price for comparison) that is the same level is $AU185, so its a bit of an add on.

Not sure on the year, looks around 2000ish. but depending on the area it's easy to crude up a cassette like that. Problem is 8 spd stuff is getting really hard to find. 1500 miles means the chain is probably stretched a bitconsidering the drive train is crudy. 8 spd road chains will be harder and harder to find. My advice would be to look for a 9spd group and stay away from this.

Brakes look newer than the rest. Agree that late 90's-very early 2000's sound about right. Also suspect of the 1500mi estimate. Not sure who was maintaining (or lack there of) the bike, but I'd have a hard time making a group look that bad after 1500mi.

While components are harder to find, I've seen clearance 8 cog sets and chains at the local PerfBike shop for dirt cheap. You could stock up ahead of time. Just an idea.
