Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Lightest Clincher Wheelset

Just wondering what the lightest clincher wheelset is and what it weighs....

Price would be important also

Have a good ride!

I've noticed that the American Classic Sprint 350 wheelset comes in at 1,372 grams

The cost seems to be around $600

Am. Classic Mags are about ~1250 or so, but obviously not an ''everyday'' wheelset.

Got a pair of Topolino wheels with c/f spokes and hubs. About 1363 grams, around $900. Great wheels!

why wouldn't you go with full out tubular if you're looking for weight saving's? I've noticed that quite a few wheels that come in both options are often 150-200g lighter in the tubular option.... zipp, bontrager, some of the mavic's.

If you watch ebay, you can pick up a set for $300-$350. I got a set last year for $265.

How do companies specify wheel set weight or wheel weight. Does it include a cassette body? What about skewers or rim tapes?

Anyone really know where any real comparison information is available. Harris Cyclery sells wheelsets listed around 800-900 grams.

Wheel weights rarely include skewers. Cassette bodies are included usually though.

No skewers or tape...with freehub body. I would guess the weights you are looking at at Harris are per wheel not for a set.

How much do you weigh? I fluctuate between 135 and 140 pounds, so I can get away with light weight wheels, but you might want to think about how wobbly light weight wheels are going to be if you weigh a bit more.

that's way light. I would be scared to fly down a mountian on such light wheels...unless they were tubies!

If you want an everyday wheelset that is reliable and fairly light, then try Velocity Aerohead rims that by themselves weigh 405grms each. No ideal of your weight but you could probably go with 32 spoke setup and use DT Revolution spokes which will weigh 141grms for all 32, then some DT alloy nips at 10grms for all 32. Hubs is a open field depending on what you like, but DT makes good hubs, howbeit expensive, and their series 340 is dependable and they weigh 135frt/310rr which is close to others. So total your looking at about 1557 grms for a set. I took these weights off of DT's website. The hubs you could probably do better price wise with Shimano Dura Ace or Ultregra depending on how far you want to go.

Not exactly the lightest compared to others mentioned but you're only looking at about 150grms or so difference per wheel, but they would last a long time.

Wow. Wow. For us poor folk, this seems too good to be true. Any experience riding them? If anyone enjoys, I'd love a quick review.
