Calling All Speedplay Users!
just yesterday a slight clicking started in my right pedal/cleat (i have X-2s). I can hear it and feel it when im putting little or no power into the cranks (going fast enough to just spin the pedals without resistance). I can't tell where the sound is coming from. I have had the pedals and cleats for about 7 months.........any thoughts? anyone have problems with the springs in the cleats wearing out or losing tension?

the cleat screws are tight, so i just lubed it up (Tri-Flow dry lube). We'll see how it works tomorrow.

I know this is going to sound funny, but Liquid Wrench makes a spray lube in a gold can (not yellow) that dries within 5 seconds of being applied and leaves a teflon coating. In fact if you apply it repeatedly to the same part, you'll see a build-up of white lube. I find this stuff works great for cleats, and for blasting the insides of STI levers.
They also make a teal colored can that contains something very similar to Triflow, which I've been using on chains. (You can't use the gold stuff on chains - it doesn't seem to be thick enough).
You can find both at Home Depot type places.

You're supposed to grease them internally every 3000 miles or something like that.
Click the link for a pdf from Speedplay.

A clicking could be either the cleats coming loose or the the plate that goes under the cleats and attaches to the shoe coming loose.

Same here; there is a risk of overtightening the screws though...

IIRC, you can get spare parts from Speedplay for a reasonable fee. When installed and maintained correctly they are a very good product.

well, i got so tired of tightening them, i figured i'd lock 'em in. at first it was just the left cleat (my click-out foot) that loosened occasionally. now the left only lasts about 4 rides before i need to tighten. i considered getting new cleats, but i'm not sure if that would solve the problem. btw, shoes are sidi genius.
