Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

A lot of people from different teams/clubs head down there, but in a lot of ways it's just sort of a free-for-all. People show up there knowing that there will be others around, or maybe they'll meet a few teammates to train or just roll around. I'm not sure about when any particular regular/organized rides happen, though. In addition to the evening rides, a lot of people head there before work or at lunchtime.

By the way, I was down there last night, too. It was sort of weird/confusing how the Park Service had half of the point closed off, altering the loop up Ohio Dr. and the Tidal Basin...

The sprinklers were odd, I road my first lap through them...I didn't guess that they would go all the way down to the point....oh well, only did it once.

Yeah I hate when they put out those sprinklers. I guess we haven't had enough rain to feed the grass.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays a bunch of cyclists meet up and cycle in a large group (between 15 to 25 riders). They gather up and maintain an easy pace then slowly increase in speed. When the group makes that large turn near the large Awakening Sculpture, things speed up and a mile later things go totally nuts and people start sprinting towards the stop sign at speeds easily over 30 MPH.

It's really fun if you are a moderately strong rider.
