Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

There were brownies last year, and the sausage I got was cooked just right. All the rest stops had brownies, cookies, fruit and loads of people willing to be friendly. I'd rather do this ride than the Seagull, but I'm going to try and do both.

My one question is, what was with the tennis balls? Were those really walnuts?

My wallet is good for one trip East a year, so I'll be a mail-in for this year's Buck's. I'll come up with some ride out here on the same day to commensurate. (Wow, did I really just use a word that big?)

Your job is to research a ride for early 2007 out closer to you -- and guilt US all to fly out to ride with you!

My wife (Kelly) is going to do this ride without me so I will try and have her hook up with you guys at the event. I will catch you all at the next one.

How hilly is this thing? I'm seriously thinking about it. couldn't do the Lancaster ride, came down with something that kept me off the bike... hopefully in shape again by October (fingers crossed)

Anyone from Central PA willing to carpool? I'm admittedly a little freaked out about the directions to get to this ride from here. . .

Oops, make that Anyone Who Is West of the King Of Prussia Mall and East Of Pittsburgh (esp. Centre Cty) who will be Going In the General Direction of the Easternmost Portion of Bucks County

Beth

PS And I'm still thinking I'll have to choose between the Seagull and this one. . . which is why I have to get Mr. Road out there with me

What are you calling 'Central PA' Beth? I'm from the Altoona area (Blair County) and that to us was Central PA... anything on the Philly side of H'burg is Eastern PA.

There is at least one bike shop here that rents road bikes. NICE road bikes too -- like $8000 Serottas....

Altoona is central PA to everybody. I'm up visiting friends in Warrior's Mark periodically, so I've been to Altoona (how many here can say that?!).

Beth, get Mr. Road on the forum. When he realizes how many guys here want to ride with you he'll be all over cycling ...

Jrod/Kelly - I'd love to ride with you! Check back here, but I'm sure Mirona will bring a Bike Forums banner!

I'd ride an $8000 Serotta if I had to -- really. I'd make the sacrifice. But just for you guys.

Well Sponge Dad did say "It's north of Philly, which I think makes it Central PA" so I was just clarifiying. By that yardstick, I (in Quakertown) would be in Central PA.

If you get the chance check out the ****inonock Lookout in Altoona and Chimney Rocks over looking Hoildaysburg... Stunning vistas!

I have family in Quakertown and Pipersville, so I think I might make it up for this ride. I just wish it were on Saturday so I wouldn't have to worry about driving back to VA Sunday after the ride.

Well, Stacey it's like this: Grasschopper is from Central PA, State College, dead center. When my profile at one point said I was in Central PA, he called me out on it. So now I have to clarify my position - whatever the Hershey/Harrisburg area is considered, that's where I am. And so it continues . . .

Beth

PS my boss grew up in Altoona...family's still there, he's not

I'm all for the guilt part and flying out to Denver for a ride, but isn't Dex going to have to have about 10-15 extra bikes for us to borrow? Dex, start collecting now. I'll take a 51-53cm frame, please.

PS: I'll bring a bag of assorted size seat post collars just in case!
