Horrible bikes...
If you are considering bikes like that, you better to buy from Walmart and save on shipment. |

Seriously, search is disabled...so this guy might think you all are really trashing the bikes...I know some have issue with BD...
But Moto's are not bad, is it the right bike for you, that is a tough one. You need to build up the bike and if you don't have experience then you should have a shop do it. Also you won't get help with the fitting, buying the right size is not usually too tough, but getting the setup correct takes time and knowledge. (my local shop would charge about $75-100 for the build and about $100 for a fitting) If you buy from a shop you will get this for free (usually, some shops try to charge for a fitting...I think if you are dropping over $700 on a bike then you deserve some free fitting but that is me...) |
If the search weren't disabled, I'd cut and paste one of my old posts about how these bikes really aren't that great of a deal for newbies to the biking world; and that an LBS that's willing to haggle, cut a deal on some accessories, and give you a free tuneup in a month would probably be a better bargain.
That said, I'm very happy with my Le Champion SL. |

Too bad you can't report posts for being obvious ****ing shills.
|
I have the perfect solution to this problem.
How about no thread-starting privileges unless you have a red star? That would free up much needed server space and weed out the shills. (Or, if the shills want to shill, at least they pay for the privilege.) |
How about no thread starting privileges until you have some arbritrary amount of posts? Maybe we can just classify these threads as trolls. The OP hasn't come back on this thread and is a newb = shill.
The more we comment the more we're fulfilling the shills goal. The website name is in the thread title and it's continuously bumped to the top or near the top. I vote for thread deletion. |
I have a feeling there is no bikesdirect shill. Maybe it happened a couple times, but why would bikesdirect be posting these, knowing the kind of negative press they're getting from the regulars (operator, alanbikehouston)?
I think it's a troll creating these accounts to provoke us. |
hmmm, dr. p. I could post the 17 laws of soccer

I called my LBS yesterday and explained to them that I was thinking about buyging from BD. I was waiting to hear them give me attitude and to try and convince me to buy from them but instead they said no problem. They'll charge be $70 to build the bike, no questions asked.
I'm there ! |

Easiest thing to do would be to just censor the word motobecane.
Putting a bunch of funky restrictions on new posters tends to drive away new users and when you run a forum, thats the last thing you want. |

It's very easy to sell at 30-50% off retail when you're the only one deciding what retail IS. |

In any case, that would be fine if it weren't being shilled everyday. |
Censoring bikesdirect.com would probably be a better option so as not to incure the wrath of Motobecane owners.

Name brand components are name brand components, (crank, shifters, etc.).....that has nothing to do with BikesDirect or Motobecane. You can say what you want about the frames but on average they're still a deal for people who know what they want... |

i bought a bike from BD a month ago and its a nice bike. i dont agree with the advertising schemes that BD is doing to the forum. but as far as the bikes go i got a windsor hour that is the same frame as the fuji track; same material, geometry, same comonents except for the fuji stamped components.
dont take your hate out on the bikes take it out at BD. and remember its not everyday you can get a $12,499 DA bike for only $999 with free shipping :p |

I know there are plenty of people that are happy with the bikes they bought from BD (after they inspected and rebuilt them)--I was commenting more on their advertising practices. |

If it's an important and/or expensive purchase I do my own research, whether it's bikes, electronics, cars, etc. Here's how it worked with me this time out.... I had been comtemplated purchasing a road bike maybe next spring. Until now I had been riding an mtb w/slicks & a 46t chainring. I had done a couple organized centuries this summer and had the desire for something faster & more comfortable that I could do century rides with and to maybe join a club to do club rides as well. I figured I was going to have to drop $1300-1500 or more next spring to get what I wanted. I checked BD and saw I could get the same build or better for $800-900...add in the $100 to have my LBS build it out for me and I'm buying a road bike now instead of next spring. Everybody gets something, me a bike, LBS $100 in labor & accessories. |
