Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Frames with Integrated Seatposts

Hey gang,

This year it appears at least to me that several more manufacturers are offering frames with integrated seatposts. For example, the Look 595, BH Global Concept G-2, Ridley Noah, and the Giant TCR Advanced LE are what I mean when I mention the integrated design. Certainly this has existed in TT frames for a bit, but I wonder how this will play out with respect to road bike frames. I know that cutting the post to spec is somewhat disconcerting especially if the fit is not dial in ideally, and that there are some differening approaches to that problem between, say, the 595 and G-2. Still, I have been considering a Look 585 build for a while now, but now that the 595 is starting to arrive I have to admit to re-thinking this as well.

Has anyone tried out a road frame with an integrated seatpost? If so, what are your thoughts?

Thanks.
T

Sounds like a terrible idea. After 100 years they've begun running out of ways to make the basic bicycle look different. This isn't the way to do it. Seat posts need to be adjustable. I would go for the older frame if I were you.

I think most of the integrated seat post bikes have allow for about 2cm of adjustment after the post has been cut.

A guy I ride with has the TCR Advanced and there's about 2cm of play left in the seatpost.

Has to be a ***** to re-sell. Better find a buyer who has the same exact inseam as you......at least someone + or - 2cm anyway.

as long as the next person has the same or shorter inseam. some of them can be cut down shorter. one of the guys on my team bought a ridley noah. the seatpost clamp slides over the seat tube and give a little adjustablity like the others have said. but the seat tube can be cut shorter for someone smaller. i believe that ridley makes another seat clamp that can add a couple more cm if necessary.

Not on my dime. I'd take the 585 anyday, though.
