Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Giant 2004 TCR alloy sizing

Hi guys, I have a question regarding the sizing of the Giant TCR alloy. I have an opportunity to buy a very cheap 04 TCR alloy online. However, the window of opportunity closes very quickly and I'm not going to have a chance to go and try the particular bike out. I'm not overly worried about that as I'm just getting into road biking and I know the bike is an excellent one, but I'm not sure about the sizing. I know the bike uses compact geometry sizing (whatever that means), which means it fits quite different from other bikes. So my question is, for a guy about 6'0 tall with a 34.5" inseam, what size frame woudl I need? Giants website seems to make it look like M, ML, or L would work...although ML isn't made in this frame. I know this might be an annoying question, but please help a newbie out. Thanks.

Is that from reading the chart or from experience using or fitting these particular models? Also, the price I'd get it for is $600 shipped, this is actually a pretty good deal is it not? Maybe I'm just way off base...lol.

Hi

https://www.competitivecyclist.com/za...LCULATOR_INTRO

for a really good fit calculator, it will give you a guide on the top tube length required, then have a look at the following chart, measurement D is what you need to look at.

Assuming this bike is used, $600 isn't too bad, but it's a little on the high side I'd argue (but it really depends how many miles are on it). And as someone mentioned, top tube length is extremely important b/c if that's either too long or too short, you can be in for an uncomfortable ride. Do the calculator and see what it tells you. If it gives you a TT length is is close but not exact to what the TCR is, you can move your seat forward/backwards or put a shorter/longer stem on to compensate for that.

if you're reasonable flexible, then a M should work just fine. You may need to buy a longer stem.

I've owned a few of the Giant TCR's because of the frame's price point on ebay and a large will be a good fit for you. The frame rides like a long 57cm or 58cm frame. Good frame for the price.

I just thought I'd post these measurements that are fairly rough but nonetheless give a picture of my body type. This is from a fitting site that just confused me a bit more...

Measurements
-------------------------------------------
Inseam: 34.8
Trunk: 25.62
Forearm: 13.5
Arm: 23.75
Thigh: 25.64
Lower Leg: 22.4
Sternal Notch: 59.4
Total Body Height: 72.25

Thanks for the advice so far guys, any more is appreciated.
