Potential bike scam please read
When I read this post https://69.16.211.161/showthread.php?...380post2987380 It just reaked of a scam. Anyone that knows anything about cycling know that Colorado Cyclist is a big mail/internet seller. Chances are most of us get their catalog or have ordered something from them.
The scam on these emails is that when you reply they ask for some personal information to confirm the order. Once you give it up, you're dead in the water. It wouldn't surprise me if the start to use Bike Nashbar or Performance in the future.
The scamers are cruising forums where they know users are big mail/internet buyers. Once they harvest your email address they start sending out the fake emails. They only have to hit on a few unsuspecting people to clean up. BEWARE
Tim

Ride it like you stole it
What you say may be true but, I used an email address that only Colorado Cyclist would know. It has never been used anywhere else as it is a + address from gmail. So unless Colorado Cyclist sold their customer list to someone else or got hacked there is little chance the messages did not come from them. That said, I did not nor will I respond to it.
FYI the + email is usually:
FYI the + email is usually:
username+whateveryouwant@gmail.com
This comes in very handy when sorting mail or tracking the source of spam. Although it is part of the RFC for smtp email, not all websites allow you to use the + symbol in your email address.

Nothing new, it's a Phishing scam.
Never follow a link from an email, even if it's from a company you do business with. Take the extra time and go to the site by typing in the URL.

Could always log into their site to see if there's a pending order, which there shouldn't be if you didn't order.

I got the odd email too, but just now I received this:
Dear Colorado Cyclist customer-
On August 30th, while working on upgrades to our computer system we inadvertently sent emails to several of you regarding shipped orders and/or account information.
These emails all pertained to old orders and can be disregarded. The account information email that was mistakenly sent contained no private information or passwords.
We apologize for any confusion or inconvenience this may have caused. Please feel free to contact me with any concerns.
Sincerely-
Kip Russell
General Manager/Colorado Cyclist, Inc.
Anybody else get this?

I received the same thing this morning! I actually went to their website to check on this myself immediately after I got the email and the site was down. I even tried logging in to manage my account which I could not! The email contained my name and old mailing address...no passwords, no credit card info and no hotlinks to click.
I called them this morning becuase I thought it was rather 'funny' how I received an order confirmation. They told me it was (as said above) due to a mass mailing to 3500 people. I then gave him the order number in the email and he confirmed it.
I went back just now and added something to my card and proceeded to check out. Thankfully my credit card info was not stored when it came to selecting payment.

Sounds like a mistake, not a scam. I think CC is way too small a company for scammers to hit like this. The scammers usually stick to the easy targets like banks or PayPal.
