Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Looking for AL handlebar with elongated (flat) top section..

Hi All,
I am looking for a set of AL (carbon's too pricey for me right now) handlebars with a nice elongated or flat section along the tops. I have issues with hand numbness from time to time and would like to try to address it with bars first before having to think about raising my stem. If I can get a set in 46cm that would be a bonus too !!

You know I've seen these bars before but the way that the picture shows the bars it's hard to get a good idea of what the flat section of the tops really looks like. I take it you're happy with your bars ??

+1. I'm actually torn between buying a second bar or going lighter on my new build. Great bar, especially for the money.

Disregard - I found it on the Ritchey site. It's the Comp level bar.

I am happy with them. I tape mine almost all the way up and it is a PITA to keep the tape in place. If I get a chance I'll shoot some pics of mine on the bike and load them up tonight.

When I first picked them up in the store they felt perfect. I figured it would make a big difference in my ride comfort. In the end it really didn't. You can find them in the $50-$60 range, and for that price it is worth trying them.

I was in my LBS today asking about the same thing. The carbon will dampen the vibration that aluminum wont. Alos, it appeared as though the flat section on the carbon bars was formed specifically to be flat. The aluminum bars looked more like the tops were just squashed flat.

Well they're more than just "squished" flat. They are hydroformed and do feel comfortable in yor hands, but again I don't think they make much of a difference. As for vibration they perform just like any other AL bar.

To me I liken these to the same change as when the industry went from standard curved drops to "ergo" bends back in the early 90's. If you found "ergo" bends to be nicer then you will probably enjoy the flat tops on AL bars. If they didn't make a diff to you then neither will the flat tops...IMHO

Well I just picked up my bike from my LBS.
He built up this: https://www.bikesdirect.com/products/...an_rec_ltd.htm

Please note that I have been riding an mtb w/100psi slicks til this point....
I rode the bike around the lot and up a nice hill which is just outside the parking lot and my first & biggest initial impression is, "Oh my God these bars are really narrow !"
I love the bike, it glides or coasts forever and just has a nice smooth feeling coming from my mtb.
I will definitely be swapping the stock bars (42cm) out quickly......

My thing is I need to be able to use aero bars so that narrows down the flat top/carbon bar choices.

Warning! Warning Will Robinson!
Are those XRP safe to have clip-ons? I'm only aware of the ITMs carbon bars to be "clip-on" safe.
Somebody please educate me.

They may or may not officially support clip-ons. I tried them at my own risk and found them to be safe enough for me, however. I've used them in vigorous time trials as well as 5-hour rides. Your results may vary.

Yes I know. I was just saying they didnt look as nicely formed as the carbon bars.
