CicloSport CM434 computer ug......
After 2 days of messing with this computer it finally does work, just not as advertised. I wanted a wireless computer with altitude and rear wheel mounting with the option of cadence. The CicloSport fit all the requirements.
After a fruitless email exchange with the company where they told me to contact warranty for replacement, I decided to replace the batteries. Customer support score with this company = 0.
I replaced all the factory batteries. Still would not record speed, distance, etc. I moved the sending unit to the front fork in one last ditch effort to make it work. It now works. On further reading of the insturctions, which might as well be in Greek or German, it says the sending unit must be no further than 60cm from the recivier? Well get out the tape measure and there is no way to mount the sending unit that close and this is a 50cm frame.
Why do companies put out crap like this knowing full well the only way to to get the sender and the reciver that close is to mount the reciver on the top tube under your seat? If I am wrong on this will someone please tell me why? Anyone else have experience with this company's computerS?

I have a CM-434....
And what led you to believe that it was a rear-mount wireless setup? I thought when I bought mine it was pretty clear that it was a front-wheel setup, unless I went with the cadence option (which I also have, but took it off).

My instructions were in English, and from what I remember, clearly stated to mount on the front fork....

Yes English instructions were included with mine also. Just commenting on the poor tranlation from the German. Have the instructions in front of me right now and it says and shows a drawing to mount the sender on the rear left chainstay. Actually the instructions tell you to mount the speed/distance sender at the rear of the chainstay which is even further from the reciver. If you have the cadence option it is to be mounted across from the crankarm on the chainstay. No use debating this. The thing works but will not on the indoor trainer which is what I wanted. I think I will copy this thread and forward it to their customer service.

Hmm.....weird. I could've SWORN that the instructions said the sender/receiver units could only be a certain distance apart (which wasn't very far). Maybe that's what I was thinking of. I lost my directions, though. But yeah...from what I remember, the translation wasn't the greatest.
I emailed their customer support the other day for the wheel diameter to input for a 700x23c tire, and they told me to call some number.....not really sure why they couldn't answer that in email. Kinda irritating.
If you don't mind looking, what does the chart say on the instructions for the diameter of a 700x23c tire? I have 2136 in there now....I think it's correct, but not 100% sure. Thanks.
My next computer will probably be a VDO.

Sorry for the delay. My instructions say 2133 for a 700x23 tire. BUT should you trust the instructions that were included with my computer? Just joking. The instructions say a max of 60cm between sender & reciver which means front fork mounting only unless you want to get creative and put the reciver on the top tube near your seat. Over the winter I think I will try that setup and see if it is workable. My next computer will not be a CicloSport. Wonder how they get away charging almost $300 for their HAC model?

Thanks for the confirmation.
Since you already have this computer, and know that it'll work mounted in front....if you need something rear-mounted for the winter/trainer, get a Cateye Astrale. Relatively inexpensive and a bombproof computer. Then when the nice weather comes around, throw the wireless back on.
Or....see if you can return the CicloSport and get something comparable. The "power meter" feature on the CM-434 is of no real use, so just look for something that has altitude, in addition to everything else. If you don't want/need an altimeter, I'd suggest the Cateye.
