Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Difference between FSA Gossamer & Energy Compact Cranks ?

I searched the forums and also on the internet but so far all I can ascertain is that the Energy crank is lighter by about 100grams ???
I think maybe the Gossamer became available with the MegaExo BB before the Energy did but not they both offer it so what else is the difference ?? Right now I'm leaning towards the Energy...
However I've always liked the looks of the Ritchey WCS compact too...
Anyone have any thoughts on any of these compact cranks ?

I Froogled the Energy crank and got a price of $139 for the MegaExo Energy......
https://secure7.nexternal.com/shared...t=products.asp
it's at least $60 cheaper than the next lowest price....
Anyone ever done business with Repartocorse ??

I think DrPete asked the same thing a bit ago. I think it was just a weight issue, since Energy is MegaExo now.

I bought the Energy Compact from Reparto Corse at $139. Couldn't be happier with the cranks or the service.

Oh, do the Energy rings use the Shimano 10-speed compatible rings?

Yeah, the Energy Mega Exos are S-10 compatible.

And yes, the Reparto Corse price was real, but blandin got the last 175's. D'OH!

As a result, I broke down and got the Gossamers for $129 on sale. I've been very happy with them, and they're still lighter than the ones they replaced. My bike is all Ultegra-10 and the performance is great.

You can still find the Energy ME's online for $219-229 if you really search... I think JensonUSA, airbomb, and some place in Michigan called cadence cycles had them online.

Gossamer - cold-forged aluminum.
Energy - hollow-forged 6061.
Not sure which is better now but Gossamer used to be higher in the product suite than Energy.
The Gossamers look to be a more svelte crank arm.

This changed recently according to the guys at Reparto Corse. Apparently FSA bumped the Energy up the product line and nobody knew it, so sales weren't great. The new Energy Mega Exo is at a higher price point than the Gossamer, and significantly lighter.

So buyer beware--the super-cheap Energy cranks you find everywhere on clearance are not the ones we're talking about, at least not me or blandin.

FSA now has Energy and SLK brakesets. The SLKs aren't carbon though.

They look nice, though, and the Kool-Stop dual compounds are pretty sweet...

But do you really want to buy brakes from "Full Speed Ahead?"

Kind of like buying a "Dead Stop" rocket I would think.

All kidding aside, I'd gladly try a pair. FSA makes quality stuff, and I used Kool-Stops on the tandem. They're some great pads.

Any word on pricing?

So it's the Energy with the MegaExo that's the new product ?
The super cheap Energy cranks you're referring to are the non ME Energy cranks ?
