Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

naked rides

In Portland there's an annual naked bike ride. I imagine half the people don't even know the purpose and do it just to do it, but because it's an organized protest or something, it's allowed and nobody gets in trouble for indecent exposure. It's sort of disgusting to me, but whatever. Laws are now just loopholes waiting to be exploited so Americans can do whatever the hell they want.

Anyway, in regards to tight shorts. I bought some at performance, which were apparently a size too small - I ordered them online. I should have tried them on. Twice when riding 10+ miles, I have cramped up really bad and needed to stop and stretch. Then I went riding on my broken in and holy shorts, and had no problems going 20 miles. So I'm pretty sure the shorts need to be broken in or exchanged for a slightly larger pair. Actually they're a bib? them things that go up and over the shoulders? Sorry, i'm not an apparel guy and only bought em because of the sterling reviews. I should probably do more "testing" before I give anyone warnings.

I have no clue what the underlying problem might be but you might try backing off or even stopping at the first sign of cramping and stretch or massage. If you try to work through the pain you increase the risk of it becoming chronic.

What age are you? Try this and see if it helps, get some high dose calcium tablets or chews 500-650mg. As soon as you feel any sign of cramps take two of them. I take two 600mg soft chews and it does wonders, no more cramps. I asked your age because you mention 15 years cycling with no issues. As we get older and remain active our bodies require more calcium. Give it a try it will only cost you one trip to drug store. I've tried all the pickle juice etc but sports Dr. Said take calcium and it worked for me. Good luck!
