Do you wear gloves in summer?
As a newbie to cycling in the summer, I was wondering what to do about white hands and brown finger tips! Any advice? (we are talking brown fingers from sun tan with fingerless gloves - in case you were wondering :D )
|
suncream your hands concentrate fingers, then just put the gloves on. I generally avoid direct sun days and ride out early morning or afternoon so I don't get burnt much. Otherwise just use good suncream on your fingers or apply lines of white zinc a top of them.

It doesnt bother me.

Always use sunscreen. Reducing handlebar friction and potential for lessening road rash in a crash. Gloves are indispensible. As to brown finger tips. Does not bother me. It's the sign of the cyclist. Be proud. You are really there, when your sunglasses cause racoon face.

Yes I do - where I live it's always summer.
Whenever I've had an minor off I've always landed on my palms.. instinct rather than judgement... The finger tip tan is better than my usual one handed golfers tan! |
I wear gloves whenever I ride at any time of year. Have never noticed my fingers getting sunburnt though. I move my hands around a lot on the bars, brifters and drops. The tips of my fingers are probably shaded by the gloved hands or the bars so I don't think they get as much sun as other parts of the body.
|
Yes, because it prevents calluses from forming all over my palms. Calluses = unladylike and not all that comfortable.
|
Any advice? |
I'm more than happy to have a glove tan on my hands. It lets other cyclists know I've been out doing a few kilometres.

|
No gloves, too hot!
|
Yes, they save your palms in a wreck. As for the tan... it's "unique".

i'm sorry if i think the short sleeve tanlines are fugly.... especially on a woman..... i wear a lot of racer back and tank tops in the summer.... why on earth would i want to have my shoulders and 1/2 way down my arms white? |
I've taken two tumbles where gloves protected my palms from picking up rash. Skinned knees and shoulders no problem, but riding on skinned palms sucks!
|
I always wear gloves. Tan line is a mark of many miles out in the sun :-) . I also sweat like a, well, a whole lot - the towel material insert is helpful.

I always wear gloves and avoid the tan-line by covering myself in spf50 sunscreen before I head out. I'm too Scottish to ride without protection from the great yellow orb.
|
Get gloves with perforations on the top, it'll even out your tan.
|
I do not wear gloves while riding, I feel like I am missing some feedback from the bike through the glove. I plan to ride later into the fall this year so I am going to have to get over this, though.
