What a stereo typical view.
And actually, I drive to races in a Dodge Durango. Cheap, and big enough to throw everything inside without even foldingthe rear seat down. And before I get any enviroment flack, I've got the Carbon credits to offset it.

thread's funny. 2 of [these] men's best toys. not so cleverly disguised as a "best car for a cyclist" thread.

NAH. That's crazy talk. I should buy a $12000 car for $25000 instead, so I can save money.

I agree with the poster mentioning driving less as an alternative. I've been much better about carpooling to distant rides, driving a lot less in general, and riding to and from work as much as possible. This seems to be a better solution than buying a hybrid.

Why is there so much animosity towards hybids? FWIW, the Prius has the highest resale of any vehicle. I agree they are a little overpriced, but the large tax credit helped even that out. Yes, we can all drive less, but I live in a very rural area and have a daughter that needs to get to her afterschool activities and the miles can really add up. So we wanted a runabout that got great gas mileage so we didn't have to drive our Sequoia or T-100 everywhere. It's been perfect for us.

Enough people have hybrids that I don't need to give up my gas guzzling habits. I have energy saving bulbs, I recycle and I live in the woods. I think I'm doing my part.

I'm in the market for a new car. Can someone recommend a nice handling car that can hold 2 bikes inside the car (+ 2 people + gear + overnight luggage) without having to pile the bikes on top of each other. Not interested in external bike racks. Thanks.

2004 Explorer, 2 bike racks on roof, lots of room, 4 wheel drive, not the greatest mileage but best vehicle I've ever owned for getting to where I want to go with the bikes.

I really do hate to rain on your parade, but:
Click here to watch a 3+ ton F350 do 11.4 in the 1/4.
I have to live within 50 miles of a couple of these. Modified diesels are a hobby around here.

I realize that grammar is never a strong suit on these boards, but in this context it's 'you're', not your.
And don't forget who rode more miles than you last year, my 'amateur' status notwithstanding.
I may be whining about the cold, but that's because I'm outside RIDING in it every day. You know, like yesterday when it was 21º and I rode into a 20mph headwind @ 15-20mph for 40 mins. I calculated the effective windchill on my toes @ approximately -100ºF.
Aren't you from San friggin Frisco??? And you're talking to somebody from the NE about COLD??? Get a grip Pedex. What's the coldest temps you ever contend with? 42º? How do you stand it you ironman you?
SPARE us the 'cyclists don't need cars' tree hugger rants already. Wrong board for that. Go over to the Greenpeace Destroy Capitalism Forum. I'm all for conserving energy and saving the world and all that, but I'm not about to walk around whipping myself with a bicycle chain, you idiots. But feel free to send us the video of YOU doing that.
This should really drive you berserk: my cycling causes me to drive MORE miles going to rides and races from where I live. Because if I cycled to all of them I wouldn't have ridden 13,000+ miles last year, it would have been 20,000+ miles. F that action. Those posts are making me want to trade the Acura RDX in for a nice Chevy Suburban and vote Republican. Almost.

columbus ohio
lowest temp ive ridden in was 5F, I dont do windchill, its irrelavent
yesterday was 20 sumthin and snow(1/2 " or less snow but 3" of salt), wind out of the west at 20 mph plus gusts, been 20-30 degrees everyday for about a week or so, like 17 last friday morning I think, thats about as cold as its been so far this year
I know your planning on less miles this year, im planning on more, prepare to be crushed.
