Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

(Another) Garmin Edge 305 Question Thread

Sorry, I did do a search and there is a lot of great information on the Edge 305 which has led me to want one really badly. I have two new questions though. I know it can mount on the stem, but can it mount on a 90mm stem or would I need to mount it on the bars? Second question: apart from Ebay are there any good deals out there on the net? The places I would think to look for it charge around $350.
Thanks,
Hjeand

It comes with two different clips for both stem or handlebar mounting, either uses the same zip tie way
of attachment.
I got my Garmin Edge 305 (cadence & HR) for $ 275.00 on Ebay. Ebay is your best bet for a good deal.

Another question. If I buy the basic model w/o HR or CAD, will it display the HR from my Polar HR monitor strap that I currently have?
Thanks,
Hjeand

Hmmmm! that's a good question. I happen to have the Polar HR also. If you can wait until tomorrow, I can try the Polar's strap on my chest instead of the Garmin's to see if the GPS registers it.
If it does, BINGO!, you'll be saving money right there, and you could get just the cadence.

I have a Forerunner and my Polar belt does not work with it. The Garmin seems to have a different HR system.

Nope. I have a polar wearlink strap, and the Garmin wouldn't read the HR. I've heard that it might work with other brands of HR monitor straps, but it appears that Polar products aren't one of them.

The Edgs uses a high end digital encoded signal for the HR monitor. Most other HRMs do not.
