Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

O.K. I finally ordered a new bike. Thanks for all the information.

O.K. so like after 6 months of heavy research and endless annoying posts and way too many late nights reading pages and pages of forum posts...........I have ordered my new steed.

Tonight I paid the deposit on a 2007 Orbea Orca complete with a full 2007 Campy Record group set and a nice set of Eurus wheels. The hardest part now will be the 3 or 4 weeks I have to wait until it arrives.

And I would also like to thank everyone for helping with lots of helpful posts even though I might not have asked too many questions, reading the answers to previous posts helps out alot. I was very interested in a BMC pro machine or a Specialized Tarmac SL and after reading some recent posts on the upcoming release of the Orca I started to ask around at the LBS and hey presto I have now ordered one. The fact that a mate put me off getting the BMC through his experience with one and that the Tarmac SL wouldn't be available to possibly next year helped the decision also.

Pictures will follow once it arrives I promise. Anyone who has seen one in the flesh please tell me I have done the right thing and anyone who has one already how is it?

Regards Dave

Hale to our new bike god. We shall wait for your orders. While we wait for delivery of your new mount we will need fresh water for our horses and cold beer for the men. Can't wait to see your photos!!!

O.K. so here is the same picture but much clearer. Thanks for all of your comments and I will definitely post some pictures when it eventually arrives. Anyone got anymore info on the new Orca or some more pictures?

By this you mean I have done o.k.? In that sort of price range the variables are endless, so I had to make a decision one way or another or my wife would have killed or left me. I think my wife (the best and most understanding wife in the world ) was just glad I had finally made a decision. I have been overdue to get a new ride for about 2 years and the research had been on and off until I became completely obsessed over the last 6 months or so. What my wife doesn't know is that I now need a new computer, bottle cages etc. She is also 6 months pregnant with our first child and this will be my last toy for awhile so I had to finish up in style........I think I did alright? Once again thanks for the comments everyone.

Regards Dave

Hey unclebob! does that mean orbea australia is actually releasing it at the same as the rest of the world!

Yes, this means you did very well for yourself! This now promotes you to cycling God! There was a review in cycling plus i belive that was posted here in the forums, so do a search, the review said it was fantastic! As another orbea owner, you did well my son...

p.s. unfortunatley, there is a slight problem with that package, so you need to send it to me so i can fix it for you. I'm even happy to do this for you free of charge, thats how nice i am. yes, fix it, thats what i'll do.

Dude, you'd better get your ride time in as soon as the bike comes in. You are not going to find much time for it after the baby arrives. At least not for 6 months or so...

Niiiiice bike, though.

Apparently so! I've been told the first orders are arriving in the next couple of weeks and mine is being air freighted in and will be in the country in approx. 3 weeks. Whether that is to me or just into the country, worst case I should have it in a month max.

Tell me about it. It is our summer soon so I will be hitting the road as often as possible. With the little fella on the way I'm working on a routine that allows me some time on the bike each day, but children however small are apparently very clever at getting their own way and using up every available spare minute. Here's hoping to a happy healthy little boy, many hours on the bike and a Mum who should get a medal even before he arrives.

Yeah I'm over in Perth and the Sping weather so far has been superb. The only downside is it has been windy the last few weekends and calm as calm when I'm at work . As you'd expect I suppose. And we found out we are having a little boy so in a few years (quite a few) I may just have a riding buddy.

You might want to get a bike trailer so the little guy can get used to going out with you. Get him in the habit early (when he can sit securely), the adjustment will be easier. That's the best compromise.

Congratulations on both counts. I've got a two year old son - the experience is priceless.
