Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The frame was a great deal, but the fork buy was a non-paypal, credit card over the phone deal. Not something I was comfortable with when I looked even before it was over. How can someone with an email address not accept paypal?

I suppose that sounds fishy but umm was that you that made the purchase? I guess it was a risk worth taking no?
When is it going to get shipped?

Nokon alloy brake/shifter cables...$50/set. The neat thing is they let you route Shimano shift cables under the tape like Campy.

I think that blue of the nokons would clash with the frame's blue color.

I'm going Campy so I'll just be using campy black casing.

I looked at that 105/9spd auction too and it looks like a good deal, just make note that it comes with a braze on FD. You may be able to trade that out at your LBS for a bolt-on or just buy another one off ebay.
I just bought a adapter clamp from performance for the braze on front. They also sell the clamps at Nashbar.

Nope, I bought this fork, which was a perfect match for my SRS-3 and the headset from Flyte.

What if I buy this bike from nashbar https://www.nashbar.com/profile.cfm?c...20Road%20Bikes
and just transfer all the parts over to the srs-3 frame? would it be a better buy then the gruppo from ebay? I believe the fork would work also correct? the fork on the bike is 1'1/8 integrated... I am just going through all the possibilities becuase I can only spend 700... all your help is greatly appreciated...
thanks,
raphael

The Tiagra components are considered a step down from 105 components. The Tektro breaks, Truvativ crank and alex wheels are also a step quality wize from the 105 gruppo.

So I will just stick with the 105 gruppo that is on ebay, since it comes with everything, I would only need to get a fork, seatpost and saddle... I know people give advice on getting better wheels if you are on the heavy side... Would the Shimano wheel ( I believer they are R550?) be okay for my weight of 215? By the time I get the bike built though, I will definately get down to 200... I want to get in this hobby to stay in shape, after my 1 year break from 24/7 basketball tourneys, I have gained some weight and want to use cycling for losing weight and keeping the weight off when I am in my offseson from bball...

my frame is here and it's purdy! The frame is 3.2 lbs and the fork is 0.8 lbs (358 gm). This scale only does one decimal point. My fork also came without decals, which I'm not happy about but it is a nice looking fork in person. My fork is shaped pretty much like blandin's so it is the decals that make it appear more blade shaped in photos.

3.2 is quite a bit lighter than my 3.5 lb 58 cm, what size is yours? I think you're right on the fork being the same, and that the stickers change the look. That being said, I find the fork to be better looking with the stickers as the bike already has a lot going on with the two tone graphics and Flyte decals. Once you've got yours built, I think you might just agree.

Pics? Please... Come on, I showed mine...

I would like to see the fork. Is it all carbon?

Yes pics please! I'm confused though. On flyte's site their close up pics of the cr3 fork looked pretty well bladed to me. It couldn't just be the decals that made it appear bladed. ARgh! Thats driving me nuts!

I wonder though...how would a true bladed fork like the Scott CR1 fork (correct name?) or fork from real design would look on a flyte srs-3 frame?

StalkerZERO, I guess unless you had both in hand it's hard to tell from the pictures. However, my for weighed exactly 350 grams and they say the CR3 weighs 390, so they may be different. This is what I received in an email after I won the auction for the frame:

1. Flyte CR3 FULL CARBON FORK: Part#: FL-FK-FLYTE-45-GLOSS

2007 Flyte CR3 Full Carbon Fork (Blades, Crown & Steerer Tube). Fork is integrated design and would look great on your new road frame if you don’t already have an integrated fork. Specs: 1 1/8” Steerer, 45mm Rake, 390 grams, (Note: Fork does not have decals) Retail $200 / Sale $150

Sorry. I just got back from bike shop. I took a few pics but I haven't even looked at them myself. My email said:

2007 Flyte CR3 Full Carbon Fork (Blades, Crown & Steerer Tube). Fork is integrated design and would look great on your new road frame if you don’t already have an integrated fork. Specs: 1 1/8” Steerer, 43mm Rake, 390 grams, (Note: Fork does not have decals) Retail $200 / Sale $140
but I wrote back and asked about stickers. I liked the stickers enough to be willing to pay more for them. This is the reply I got:

We are now including the 3m Flyte decals with the fork.
As I said before it is a very nice looking fork, but I'm OCP enough to want people to know what fork I have when they look at it. Also my headset did not come installed. It did come with a star nut? which Performance Bike Shop (PBS) said carbon forks don't use. They said I needed a compression plug to install the fork and they don't have one that fits so they have to shop around for one. Initially they said I could get the bike tomorrow night until they discovered the compression plug issue. Now it might be Monday before it's done. ugh! Needless to say I'm kinda bummed about potentially not riding this weekend. I have half a mind to tell them to overnight me a fork with stickers and headset pre-installed. Unfortunately I only have half a mind so I can't spare it.

I did look around PBS at other bikes. The Flyte welds are MUCH nicer than the Scattante welds and pretty much indistinguishable from the Schwinn welds.

I don't plan on getting done until the Holidays. - Heck I shouldn't even buy the group until I get my birthday and/or Christmas money (yes I still get both even though I'm 31)

Notice I said "shouldn't"....

+1. I'm hoping for a big fat christmas bonus that I can use to build the flyte. Right now I'm trying to figure out a way to fit it back in the corner with the rest of my bikes in such a way that it doesn't take up any additional room.

As for the fork debate - I *really* wanted to get a Real Design HP Pro fork for this build. My LBS had some on sale that were pre-cut at a pretty decent price. But I opted to get the 43mm Ouzo Pro... only to accidentally buy a 40mm anyways while chasing the best price on ebay (oops, that was so totally my fault ). I think I'll stick with the Ouzo, it's a great looking fork, made in the USA, came with the compression plug I need and all that jazz.

I keep thinking "well if I get the group for christmas all I need is wheels" then I remember... "oh yeah, and saddle... and pedals... and tires..."

I took these pics within 10 minutes of opening the box so I don't wanna hear jack about the lighting or where the white garage door is. My home monitor is also overly dark so the pics look like crap to me no matter what.

Wow, very nice. I do like these new glossy finishes! Not about to sell my frame off and buy a glossy for regular price mind you, but they are very classy looking frames!

Your frame looks to be a high gloss finish, mine and all the others I've seen are matte. ??

blandin, I've seen two people post showing the new glossy finish. Not sure if they were retail purchase or ebay purchase that just got lucky.

I would have to see the new frame in person to make the call. I actually like the matte finish on mine, gives it a different, more unique look I think. Not to say that those with the gloss finish don't have great looking bikes as well.
