Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Still a great deal. I don't buy stems anywhere else anymore--stems are almost never damaged with use and the ones for sale are usually quick swaps, so the quality is great. I just picked up an FSA OS-140 for $20, and have a bid out on a Deda Newton that's at $15 right now...

Speaking of which, anyone need an FSA OS-170 100mm?

Pete - I'm looking for 100mm stems, but only in old school quill and 26.0 or 26.4 clamp. My 56cm Flyte is going to need a longer stem than 100mm.

You're right. I am wary of used carbon parts but stems are good to go. I would not buy carbon wheels sight unseen and I low-balled a bid on carbon bars because they had a teeny scratch on them. They didn't sell so I've been talking to the seller directly. not too sure about carbon seatposts either.

Agreed on the carbon purchase sight unseen. I'd consider it from a company who sells through ebay perhaps, but not sure about individuals. Not saying that an individual would be any more likely to knowingly sell a bad part, but course of action against them would be much more difficult. I used to buy a fair bit of computer parts on ebay and it was even more difficult to know what you were getting when buying used - or what could be/might be/should be new. A dead motherboard or processor can look just like a brand spankin new one.

So here's a question for all. I plan on using Campagnolo Veloce. So... silver... or the "infinity" black?

That was my thought too, but I've never done an all black setup either. I do love the look of polished aluminum.

I wanted the black, but PBK sent me the silver ones. It was almost like they hid that they were silver and not black. Didn't really help that the picture was of the black ones.

I bought my fork tonight! Should be coming maybe even sat.

As an admirer of all of these Flyte frames, I vote silver - always in style.

The black FRA crankset on my Flyte looks pretty good, I wouldn't discount the black out of hand, it just might make your bike more unique.

I like the silver in the rings of your crank; it makes me want to upgrade to the K-Force carbon.

Good point, the silver in the rings does add quite a bit to the look. Maybe all black would be too much.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking too Blandin. All the dark parts and the matte frame all blending together. Suppose I've got a month or so to decide still. I am looking forward to getting my wheels in. Its going to be agony not putting them on a bike right away.

I finally finished my Flyte build. Ultegra 10 sp, Renolds fork, Renolds Alta Comp wheels, Richey compact crank. I've only ridden it around the block a few times tonight. Hopefully I can take it for a ride tomorow.

Looks good, man. Finally, someone else who doesn't have 3 feet of seatpost showing. I'm going to need two sets of deep black rims. I want rims w/no decals for the Flyte and rims with decals for the QS2-S.

I'm now scheming how to convert my old road frame into a fixie.

You just had to go and put white handlebar tape on there didn't you? I was hoping no one would so I wouldn't be tempted to do the same on my build. I wonder what white bar tape + white Rubino Pros would look like with the white accents in the Flyte logos. Thankfully I've already got a roll of the Flyte carbon wrap to use first. Over all a very nice looking build.

I walked to the checkout counter carrying blue and black tape...the decision-making process burned up quite a few brain cells.

Got my Veloce hubs last night, but because I worked late, then got in trouble for working late, my wife neglected to tell me that they had arrived. I found them this morning sitting in my office by my chair. Now I know why she was so upset. She probably thought they cost a fortune.

I have never used Campy equipment (always was out of my price range). My first impressions are almost pure amazement. Even thought these are Veloce they are really well built. Problem is that they are also super heavy. Heavier than I had planned, but oh well. I am planning on using it to pull a trailer anyway....

When it comes to hubs, I'll take a little extra weight to get quality and durability. Droping 50-100g of hubs isn't going to matter much when the bearings eat themselves to dust in the middle of a century. That's one of the reasons I decided against some of the wheelsets I was looking at. At the weight they were claiming, and the known weight of the rims they were using, I knew somewhere there had to be a 'light' link somewhere.

Did you get the 06 or 07 Veloce hubs? I really liked the looks of the 06 models and if I ever come across a set on ebay NOS I'll probaby pick up a pair.

2006 - I like the look of them a lot. Not crazy about the '07 look. Got them on E-Bay for $56 for the set.
