Flyte SRS-3s on ebay even cheaper! (99.99)

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

What about thsoe build kits someone mentioned, those that were like super cheap.

I've been eager to build it up and ride it and today I made great strides.
Here's what I've got so far: https://s5.photobucket.com/albums/y17...gAnch=imgAnch1
I didn't apply the handlebar tape yet since I'm planning on ordering a Shimano Flightdeck computer.
I rode it today as-is for about an hour. The headwinds from the south are gusting today. This is my first bike ever with STI, honestly I wasn't entirely comfortable with the shifting, I kind of miss my downtube shift levers. I'm having some weird grinding sounds coming from the Wipperman Connex 9X1 stainless chain that I'm using. My fear was that the bike would feel too small since I'm nearly 6 '1" but that first ride felt pretty good, I was nice and stretched out and the 11 cm stem turned up feels about right. I used 3 10mm carbon spacers before mounting the stem. International Pro Bike Shop sawed off the carbon steerer and set it up for me for $20 + $5 each for the spacers. I've never ridden a carbon fiber fork, and never ridden more than a 7 speed cluster in the rear. I'll probably post an update. My cycling just got MUCH more interesting .
Very nice. Looks like your saddle is a tad higher in the front? Is that a Turbomatic 3? The more I look at it the more I like their stem. I think I'll save myself $170 and not go carbon stem. I probably will go carbon with the bars just for the comfort. wonder what blue cork tape will look like..

With everyone posting pics I don't think I can wait til december to build mine up...looks like it's getting 8-speed D-A.

FLIP IT!

Yeah, I think I set it up initially with a slight upward tilt. I don't know why but I kind of like it that way. Its a Turbomatic 4 that I bought of ebay earlier this year - I was using it on my touring bike which I'm retiring. If my first test ride is any indication, I'm going to LOVE the carbon fork...why in the world wouldn't you go carbon. I'm toning down some of the colors right now. My tires are Pro2 Race Michelins grey and black in the 25 mm width. After I install the FlightDeck I was going to go with Silver Deda Elementi bar tape. As far as "flipping it" goes, I don't think my back will allow that, at least not yet, I'll have to get back with you after my first 1000 miles on the bike, then maybe I'll "Flip It".

I wouldn't exactly call them "vintage". I mean they are new 7703 triples that I purchased new just a few months ago. I realize that 10 speed has been out for a while, but for me 9 speed is a huge jump into the future.

Nice looking build and it sounds like your really going to enjoy your new Flyte. I would make one suggestion, and this is to remove the silver chainstay protector that came with the frame and replace it with a clear one, or even black for that matter. It was the only part of the frame that bothered me and I replaced mine with a clear one. Have fun!

Masi61, great looking ride. I'm making a pretty good jump forward into the future too with this build. I haven't taken a 'modern' bike more than around the block a couple time so I'm really looking forward to getting mine built up. I'm with blandin on taking off the chainstay guard sticker.

No wonder they are dumping Ouzo Pros on Ebay. Reynolds has a new 2007 fork at 300gm.

The fork may well be an improvement, but I like the look of the old Ouzo Pro a lot better.

blandin, I keep a pic of your bike on my desktop all day. Making mine turn out as nice as yours is a big motivator. I'm busting my butt to find a new wheelset with deep black rims.

Dial Tone, Thanks much for the compliment. As to the wheelset, Mike Garcia's SpeedCific Niobium 30's would certainly fill the bill, and they have received great reviews from BF members who own them.

I agree with Blandin, and I am glad I bought what I did from Reynolds. One of hte reasons I got this was because of the subtle logo design. The frame already says FLYTE in 3" letters, I never liked that obnoxious branding.

Add me to the list of "glad I got a deal on a better looking fork" list. I'm not going for the lightest weight rig anyways.

Same-I'm darn happy I got a great fork for a good price. I am guessing my bike will come in somewhere in the 18-19 pound range, and I'm not too worried about that.
Here's what I've got here or on the way.
Flyte SRS-3 frame
Campy Veloce 2006 groupset
Look Keo Classics
Reynolds Ouzo Pro
Reynolds Alta Race (I'm a little worried about these-If the manufacturer has no idea what's going on their their wheels, the QC thing is scaring me, might be sending them back for the Xero lites)
Fizik Aliante Ti
Deda white bar tape

My dad's SRS-3 will be specced as follows-
Flyte SRS-3
Shimano mishmash-Sora shifters, tiagra FD, 105 RD, etc...
Crank Brothers pedals
Reynolds Ouzo Comp
Mavic Open Pro/Ultegras
Likely a Specialized Toupe, or whatever fits his butt!
Deda white bar tape! (looks hot with the blue)

tekhna - you shouldn't have any trouble getting in the 18-19lb range with that build I would think. Your build looks pretty close to mine and a couple others I've seen, only I'm holding out for the 2007 Veloce with the Ultra-Torque crank and going with Campy Ventos wheels. They're a bit heavy, but plenty functional for my needs.

And don't tell me how good the white bar tape looks! I've got one bike with white tape already and it just looks GREAT, but as much as the Flyte is going to get rode, I'm not going to have the time to clean the bar tape weekly.

Masi..I ride a Bianchi Eros (steel) in 59 and the Flyte size 56 (top tube actual and effective, and center of crank to top of seat post) is real close to the Bianchi's...Can you or anyone let me know if the size 56 would be too small or work? BTW, I am 6-1, long arms 34/35 and torso and shorter legs at 32" pant length.
Opinions? I plan on building this frame into my flat bar city/urban ride. Many thanks!

I picked up one of the 56 last night. I figure I wait for some good holiday deals on componets and build it over the winter.

I just got my shipment notice now. I doubt it will be here in time to build it up for the century I have planned Saturday. I'll probably cancel that, hit the track instead and hope it's ready for a long one Sunday.

For single guys like me waiting on a new bike is almost like my gf is about to deliver...or be delivered. LOL. Until then this desktop is all I have.

I paid $149 for my SRS3 frame and have built nice 18 lb.bike for under $800. Pictures will follow in another post.

This includes Shimano Ultegra derailluers, shifters/levers & chain, Shimano 105 brakes and crankset, Shimano 9 spd. cassette, FSA aero wheels, Sella Italia saddle, Michelin Pro Race tires, Nashbar Look compatible pedals, Halo bars, stem and seat post. All of these components are new and were bought via eBay.

If there's a thread for best bike for the money, I feel good about my chances.

I think it'll probably work if you turn up the stem and use a little longer stem. If you have a bad back at all the compact size could make longer rides harder on your back. I will be riding some longer distances soon. So far I was pleasantly surprised that I was plenty stretched out, not "bunched up" in my upper body. This feels really comfortable to me and lessens the pain on my back, kind of the opposite of what you might think a more compact frame would do. Jamie at Flyte told me that the SRS-3 has a slightly longer virtual top tube measurement which keeps six footers from having to use the 58.

I'd be ecstatic if my build gets near 17 lbs. That will take a new wheelset though which won't happen til New Years. My current steel bike is 20.5 lbs in size 52.
