Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Prospect Peleton. Fred. Stupid.

I was out at the Propect Park working my base miles. Just spent 2 hours straight riding at 85% of my FT. About 210w. Maybe 1500kcal. I was 1 hours and 15 minutes into my workout. A van decided to pull into the Wolman parking lot without stopping or seeing if there are cyclists coming up from the left. I ended up riding pass the jogger’s lane in order to avoid hitting this SOB. I turned around and called him a moron.

Anyway, I regained my focus and just motoring alone up the climb and heading pass the water fountain. I was doing about 21 mph 22mph and heading to the downhill section. Now, this glorified poser or fred on a LiteSpeed was going no faster than 10 mph. He was weaving right and left trying to balance his bike right in the middle of the road. I decided to pass him on the right. Well, I think he was about to make a freaking U turn onto my left. I yelled out. I passed him. I turned around and called him stupid. Well, he began to mouth off like I offended his honor and manhood. I was like Ok. I continued to motor along and trying to keep my power output around 210w. Then, one of his buddies from the Prospect Peleton asked him “which one which one.” Gee, which one??? If this fred was any good, he should have done like any self respected cyclists or racers would do. Ride up to me and to give me a piece of his mind. I think by the time he found out “which one” he would wish he had never mouthed it off.

Anyway, I still have another 45 minutes to go.. I was coming up the same section again. I saw one of their buddies on a carbon Ceverlo 2.5. He was just dicking around and going the opposite direction. I just spent a bit over an hour and didn’t see these guys riding at all. I passed him and he didn’t do ****. Next, heading down to this hill again, this fred of all fred on a Wal-Mart bike with a front basket trying to ram into me. I was hugging along the bike lane and decided to test his nerve. I was coming down TO him at some 27 mph with my weight and shoulder leaning to my right. Bike/wheel leaning to the left. Well, nothing happened. This reminded me of some inner city thugs on their BMX trying to play chicken. Whatever. I thought about turning around but decided to focus the task at hand. I was expecting these glorified freds or posers to make their round again. Well, I saw no one. They all left. I pulled a can of coke and downed it. I finally finished off the remaining 30 minutes of the interval.

Average power was 216w. Distance 41 miles. Average speed 20.8 mph. Time is 2 hours.

Next time I see these Propsect Peleton, I will introduce them to my friends called “shoulder,” “pavement,” and “gutter.” I think these guys are like your 12 year old play ground bullies. They frequently harass pedestrians. When one of their own being called stupid by guys who are 10x faster and better cyclists/racers then they are (none of them race BTW), they really can’t do ****. This guy named Ricky or “the beast” is even funnier. I dropped his ass so many times that it is no longer fun any more.

Any one from the Prospect Peleton would like to make a comment??? Tell your buddies to watch their ass and don’t do anything stupid.

Why do you always feel the need to drop stats during everyone one of your posts - you're like Arod on a bike.

Those riders of Litespeeds, Cervelo R2.5 and Walmart Denali all need to be "taught lessons"... Good thing we have your elite-ness on the job, keeping the world straight

Great post, man.

R600, I hear ya. Don't those fools realize that you own the Prospect Park drive? I mean, after all, you are the best racer in NYC history. I can't believe there are actually people with the temerity to use the Prospect Park drive for the sheer enjoyment of it. What total a$$holes. Next time I see some loser recreational cyclist out there, I'll run him off the road in the name of R600DuraAce. That is, assuming I can get permission to use the road myself. Whaddya say?

Thanks for an awesome post, dude! And keep up that 21mph average! DAMN that's fast. Oh, and keep up the great attitude, too. You're the reason that cyclists are so popular, respected, and looked-out-for in the city. Thanks for your invaluable public service.

I wish there were more R600DuraAces out there.

210W? That's it?

When I ride hard I am throwing down like 300-400.

You certainly seem to have a negative opinion of anyone on a bike who is not you. Maybe they were all posers, but your post comes off WAY elitist.

Oh man, this reminds me. Earlier today I was like 5 minutes into walking back from class, doing an easy 200W, roughly 4.21mph, when out of nowhere some moron wearing hi-tops cut in front of me. Didn't even say excuse me, the bastard.
