Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Aluminum wing bars, with internal routing?

Does such a thing exist? I have the IRD wing bars and like them, but think I would rather have the cables going through the bars, ala FSA K-Wing.

Thanks.

Not internal cables.. but cable grooves.

Stella Azzurra Profi Ala Bars:
Kinda heavy at 281 grams, and $104.00 at Reparto Corse

FSA Wing Pro. Works like a charm. Also grooved, not internal, but it's a nice sexy deep groove.

Do any of these have something to secure the cabes underneath? I'm using tape right now and it's not working as well as I want.

Something like this....

yer not gonna get that kind of manipulation with aluminum. I use electrical tape in a couple spots; works well enough for me. Shrug.

Yeah, that's what I figured. That's why I wanted to see if there were any internals out there.

Is this just for Campy? Does it work with Shimano cable routing as well??

Probably not for Shimano. Theoretically you can't route the cables under the tape with Shimano, but I've seen it done by the pros.

On Easton's website they state that Phonak was the only team to ride the entire tour with all carbon bars. I'm not sure if that means teams don't trust carbon road handlebars or just that not all teams have carbon aero bars.

Pros are able to route cables under the bar tape by using a special cable houseing called Nokon:

This enables the bends to be tighter.

Yeah, I don't want carbon. I don't want to replace $200 bars if I happen to have a bad season.

Okay, so I'll change the question. What wing bar has the deepest grooves? Ones that I can't feel the cables underneath when I wrap my hands around the bars.

Thanks.

heh, I'll stand by my FSA Wing Pros. I don't feel the cables (I'm running Campy, so there are two under there). At least, I never noticed. Of course I will now

Yep, I like them for the comfort. I'd laugh at anyone who bought them based on sheer aero.

I have the FSA's on my Pedal Force.. you dont really notice the cables underneath. They're nice bars, especially for the money.
