Recommend a basic bike repair book
Installing/adjusting derailleurs, brakes, threadless headsets, etc and covers 10-speed, carbon fiber components, etc. I'm not even sure the last book I had covered STI.

I really just want the basic stuff - moving a gruppo to another frame; replacing cables; installing a headset, trimming derailleurs. For some repairs the tools don't pay for themselves 4-5 uses, like a truing stand...plus I don't have a lot of space to work with. I doubt I would install a crankset myself. The Park book sounds good.

I like to have a hard copy in my mitts , I can carry about. I like for beginner books; " The Big Blue Book of Bike Repair," by Park Tool.

I have two books
for beginners I recommend the Bicycling Magazine's book of bicycle repair. It has tons of pictures and illustrations and is written in an easy to understand format. It has very VERY good tips on maintaining your bike (not just building and repairing)
If you want something more technical, get the park book. It's a little more detailed. However, I feel like it's too wordy. Makes something simple read rather complicated.
Bicycling magazine 'Bicycle repair' is to a Self-Help idiot's guide book
and
Park Tool Big 'big blue book' is to a text book your professor made you read
