Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Not that I owned one, but it is from the era when those were one of the best around MTB's for the money.

Nice Road Treks too!

Today's mountain bikes look like some robot type droid creation out of Star Wars. I still prefer a hardtail with a decent front shock and not much else. Simple.

Agreed, some are nice, some are just waaay out there. I prefer classic Hard Tails too, however appreciate the benefits of a well designed FS if the terrain dictates it.

Was there a story attached to this? Why did you send it to Trek just to replace the derailluer hanger?

It's not replaceable like many other bikes, but bonded in the frame - thus a factory repair.

My first roadie..... awfully nice for a newbie bike, but I am fortunate enough to work at a shop. I absolutely love this thing though. Changes I've made are saddle pack and Speedplay X-2's. Next upgrade will be a saddle and longer seat post.

thanks viper. i got the bike back in '92. the frame was bought from a trek sponsored mtn biker who switched sponsors, and the parts were bought 2nd hand from techno geek friends from a NYC bike shop, who had to have the latest & greatest, but almost never rode their bikes. proto-OCPers I guess? so i ended up getting a pretty nifty bike for next to nothing.

the sad thing is that it hasn't gone off road in +/- 12 years.

Thanks. It's the newer crankset (which itself was worth the cost of uprgrading from Ultegra 6500).
