Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Which Polar?

Recommend the best heart rate monitor. This is for running, xc skiing, cycling, and hiking. I need something for all-around activities and for the time, too.

725 has altitude and can use power on the bike.

Really depends on whether you want the PC interface or not. If you don't, the low-end polars work fairly well. If you want a great cyclocomputer that you can also use for other activities, the 720 or 725 are very nice. And pretty pricey.

AXN300... altitude feature & barometer, cheaper then the725 and 720 (no computer interface... just load your data on an excel spread sheet).

If you would rather go cheaper look at the F6 or F11. I would at least go with a "coded" model. That way there is less chance of cross talk between users.

i've had a bunch over the years, from the beat, to the s120, and currently have an s810i.

while the 810i has all the bells and whistles, it's useless because i'm on a 4 year old powerbook. good thing i got it for free good thing i only really pay attention to is my HR when i'm actually riding.

this one got the most use (but i doubt you'd be able to find one very easily these days )

I just bought the F55. It's supposed to be great for most aerobic activities. Thanks for the tips.

Cheers

I have the 710 and 725.. I would any of the 700 series polar monitors will work great.. If you are going to use for HR as well as bike functions, I would use 710 or 720.. The 725 does not have start stop bike function..

i personally use the F6 because, when i started spinning last year, i needed one. i would like to get one of the higher end models, but i don't need all of the bells and whistles, just a heart rate monitor with a backlight is fine for me...

I was in Polar's Corporate Offices last week and got to see that model along with every Polar ever produced. They have them all on display in their lobby. Actually pretty cool seeing them all in one place like that.

I love my F11.

What do you mena by start stop bike function?
You can turn of the speed or swap (add) others sports to it.
Or do you mean something else?
