Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Anyone Know of Any Problems With CAAD8??

I was just offered, what I think is, a great deal on a new '06 CAAD8 frame and fork. Only problem is it is painted in the local shop's team colors, which I don't particularly care for. I talked to Cannondale and was told that they don't have a repainting program and to have it repainted would void the warranty, but I can purchase a decal set if I choose to do so.

Question is, has anyone ever had to have their CAAD8 replaced with a warranty issue? I haven't heard of anything like this, but I'm not sure. Any reason why I shouldn't buy it and have it custom painted exactly how I would like? Thanks for all replies.

No particular reason not to buy it...but I would factor in the loss of the warranty in the purchase price.

CAAD8 is a great frame.

tons of shops have their c'dale frames team painted

the team decals and sponsor decals are BELOW the clearcoat though--keep this in mind

I can't imagine a deal worth a repaint, you should be able to get a good deal on caad7/8 nos through ebay

I just got an awesome deal on a nos caad7 si with uncut fork--mine is a team frame, but it has no decals or team paint

I would go ahead and have it painted. I have 5 cannondale bikes and never have had a frame weld issue. the warranty doesn't specify painting but does state that alterations and modifications will void the warranty. The supplement for my 2006 Six13 team frame does specify painting and refinishing will void warranty because of the carbon and aluminum disimilar material galvanic corrosion issue. I can't see what harm repainting would do if it's quality work. even if cannondale won't warranty the frame if the deal is good enough it's like buying a C'dale off Ebay with no warranty chances of having a problem are pretty slim, it's a quality frame.
