Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

OCP Tire Decision

I am looking at throwing some Conti 4000 GP's on my Reno and I am not sure what color of tire to get, I need some help here. The choices are red, grey or black.

Here is my Reno

It kinda tough to decide based on this backlit photo - as I can't see any accents on the bike.

Black is always in style however....

Black. Colored tires look stupid and apparently they don't grip as well.

I say red!! It looks like you have red handlebar tape and that would look good together. I personally love colored tires so my opinion is biased.

if it was me, i would only use the black ones, but that's just me...

since it's your bike, and you're worried about looks, i say use a black one up front and a red one in the rear...

if i was going to use a colored tire, i would only use one, and start a hot new trend...

i have a suggestion, how about something different, and black out the bike with black handlebar tape and black tires and switch to pink Bontrager water bottle cages. i personally think that would look hot, and that's what i'd do if it was my bike, but once again that's just me...

Sorry for the crappy pic, I am at work and that is the only that I can get to right now. I do have red bar tape, a red/black fizik arione saddle, and one black and one red bottle cage. I do sport a Bell Sweep R helemt in, you guessed it, black/red, so I was thinking that I may be over doing it with the red.

I am not totally opposed to the idea of two different color tires, does anyone have pictures of a bike like this?

Red.

I've got blue Vittorias on my Gazelle and as long as I don't get into too much dirt/sand/dust they color matches the blue accents on the frame pretty well. Tires are wearing out though and not sure what to try next.

Given the accents I can now see, I say red. Very nice.

I voted red. but if that was my bike I'd do an ebay scheme.

Red Tape
Blue Saddle
Green front tire
Yellow rear tire

alright, after a better look at the bike, this is what i would do...

i would get a black tire for the front, so it blends with the black fork. i would use black tape on the bars, and black them out totally, to keep and all black look up front...

i would get a red tire for the rear, cause there's no black on the rear of the frame. also, i would keep the bottle cages the way they are, but i would use a black bottle with the red cage and a red bottle with the black cage. and i know, i have WAY too much time on my hands, but i'm a perfectionist...

and i love the saddle, i was going to use the same exact one in the same exact color, but it's too narrow for my sit bones...

and if it was me, i would go with 23's just because they're narrower, but that's just me...

What you really need is handlebar tassles in red and black, and a jaunty flag.

Source please. I can understand that you may not like the look of coloured tires, but I cannot belive they grip any differnent.

In terms of the photo, I think the red tires would look nice with the existing bar tape

when i used to ride BXM and Flatland Freestyle, back in the mid 1990's, and at one point the hot trend back then was to use white tires...

i don't know how colored tires are made now, but i do know that back then, the white tires wore out MUCH faster than their black counterparts. and yes, they were made by the same exact manufactures, and they used the same exact tread, and GT tires were notorious for this...

i'm guessing that the formula's have advanced, but i know at one point that wear was a problem...
