Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

upgrading tiagra

hi, im looking at a giant ocr composite frame bike but the only one i can afford is the tiagra model.

is it possible to upgrade some of the tiagra components later on with 105/ultegra??
perhaps the shifters or derailuers if possible but tiagra is 9 speed and 105/ultegra 10 speed, so are they compatible??

there's plenty of cheap shimano stuff on ebay i could buy for upgrading.

thanks.

To upgrade from 9sp. to 10sp., you'll need a new chain, cassette, as well as a left brifter.

Yes you can. The 10 speed FD may be narrower but I see no reason why not, someone else may be able to better tell you.

No, go to BD (www.bikesdirect.com) and get yourself a Motobecane
