Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

DT Swiss 1.1 rim equal to?

I'm guessing this equivalent to a Mavic Open Pro?

Well yea...sort of...but it is lighter and not made in France.

Seriously from the wheel builders I have talked to not only is the spec on the rim lighter but they actually come in to that spec where Mavic rims (just like their wheel sets) come in over weight. Most seem to think the quality is higher as well.

Great rim, I had a set from oddsandendos.com and they never went out of true but I think that has as much to do with Mike's build quality.

Grasschopper's got it right. They are in the same "category" of rim as the Open Pro. I was considering them for a custom wheelset I'm looking at in the spring/summer and everything I read about them was very positive. The only reason I've eliminated them is that the 'silver' color is more of a powder gray color. Yeah, it's the OCP in me, but the vintage frame just 'needs' silver rims.

Thanks guys, I'm building my next PowerTap wheelset and was considering using these instead of OP's.

Cuda did that pick of the rd work for you?

I looked into getting them for a while. I would agree with the OP comparison. I did read that DT was setting in double eyelets now, and the newer, heavier weight put it neck and neck, if not heavier, than OPs

I ended up with OPs (again) on my new build because I took advantage of some great pricing. Otherwise I would have gone for the DTs

Err these (DT RR1.1) have always been double eyeleted.

DT RR 1.1 rims are either single or double eyelet. https://www.dtswiss.com/index.asp
Mine are 3 years old and are single. I also have two sets of similar wheels with MAVIC Open Pros, no problems with either. The DT's are lighter, the OP's may be stronger, I don't know. I ride some fairly rough rodes and have never had a rim failure. My weight is 165. My wheels have Revolution (14-17-14) spokes and aluminum nipples.

I believe DT plans on keeping the 28h version of the R1.1 single eyeletted.

If you're looking for rim with a lower spoke count, you should also look into Velocity Aeroheads and the Aerohead OC for the rear.

These are the rims that I'll 99% likely end up using on my custom build with White Industry H1 hubs (campy freehub). Come in a true silver, and the OC rear will help with the rear dishing on the campy hub.

When I was looking at the DT factory built RR1450 wheels set (uses the R 1.1 rim) I was told by DT that they had made a running change (no change in part numbers) to double eyelets due to spoke hole cracking with heavier riders (above 170). The RR1450 set has a 28 spoke rear.

When was that, if you recall?

I have the 28 hole f/r from Mike G. They are very light and single eyelet. Since they are basically the exact same rim as the OP, I would imagine that the double eyelet 465g rim is basically the same weight that an OP rim comes in at. Hevent confirmed with weight weenies, but it would make sense. I am 140# and have never had anything close to a strength issue, but the website does now list the single eyelet rim as "lightweight road" for the category.
