Ebay find of the year - maybe x-mas for me

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

All I can say is that I hope they sell merlinextraligh's Giant, and use this pic:

Sure would be nice to get the TCR *and* the Porsche for the price of a bike...

He left positive feed back for the seller on Dec. 28th but I would love to know how many frames he got because I swear that auction is for one only!!

I was just looking at the auction and it says "Where low prices come first and Service comes second" When the hell does service come second? Shouldn't service come first and low prices second?

Millions of Wal Mart customers would disagree.

Sorry.....

I never did give an update. Well, it has pretty well come to a close. I did get 2 frames. Both were minor scratch and dent.

The Carerra had a small dent on the seat tube and some paint chips. It had been built up - BB chased and headset scars on the inside of the tube. A beautiful frame though, no fork included). A 52cm Carerra Aries (MSRP $1200 with fork) with Columbus Nemo tubing - just as I thought.

The Moser was nearly mint, minus a tiny paint chip on the bottom side of the downtube, a tiny chip on the right cable guide on the downtube, and a scratch on the crown of the Deda Black Blades fork, which is covered by the brakes. Brand new, BB never even faced and chased. A Moser M81 Size 54 (I thought it was a M78 Al from the auction pic), with Deda EOM16.5 steel tubing, a full Deda carbon rear, headset, and deda black blades fork uncut. A perfect beauty! (MSRP $2300).

Now the bad news (relatively). The Carerra was the frame that I wanted, which was too small at a 52cm. I was going to build a cool single speed. I am selling it to the store manager at the LBS, who is going to build it up with a record 9 speed group that he has. I am going to give it to him for $100, even though he offered $150 the day I showed it to him. As a builder of my own bikes, it will be nice to hook them up for once, as I use the LBS community, but dont spend a ton of money there.

The Moser I put on ebay with a BIN of $800 and a reserve of $225 (to get me to break even). I was concerned that there were no people who would want it (not widely known brand and not a "vintage steel" with the carbon rear and integrated headset). A guy who had a TK1 in college offered me 450 to buy it offline a couple of days into the auction, so I went ahead and did that. He sells Japanese track bikes that he imports for a living and lives the cycling lifestyle, so I decided to let him have the Moser cheap, as he would appreciate it for many years.

After selling the Moser, there was a small, but vocal outcry of people who wanted to know what happened. It appears that I would have gotten closer to $700 for the frame, had I let the auction go on.

Oh well. I ended up making about $200 off of a $330 investment, and I helped out a couple of people, who will appreciate the works of art that they are, get really cool frames. I am really glad that I am able to sell the LBS guy the Carerra so cheap (it is really sexy). Had I been more screwd, I probably could have made close to $1000 between the two frames, but I did my good cycling deeds for the year (and it is only Jan).

That being said, I have the Moser in the back of my car, and I am going to box it up today during lunch. I am going to take the Carerra to the guy at the shop either tonight or tomorrow. I am already having seller's remorse, as they are so nice to look at. I didnt ever even want the Moser, but it is a nice frame to look at. I will see the Carerra from time to time, as it will be at the shop, so that one doesnt bother me as much. For 1 solid month, I had 2 Italian steel frames gracing my stable.

From this day forward, I will only have the pics to remember them by.

Looks like you proved a lot of haters wrong.

$200 gained is nothing to be upset about considering that a lot of people thought you were going to lose that much.

It is all about reading the fine print. In the case of Bargainland, they state that they are experts on nothing that they sell; sometimes the pic and the description do not match up. You, as the bidder should always bid on what is shown in the picture, as you will always be buying exactly what is shown in the picture.

In my case, the picture was surely different than what they sent me......an empty box.
I ordered a digital camera and when it got here, all it was was the empty camera box. I tried for 4 months to get eBAY, PayPal etc. to listen or help, but all they said was "sorry". I ended up just racking it up as a $100 "lesson".

Having been down the road of buying something on Ebay that didn't turn out as hoped, I'm glad it all worked out.

Since it's too big for most to ride, and no fork, I'll say $86.34 including shipping

Ohhh, geez, that sucks! Gotta tell you, last night I was reading this post in bed and I just cracked up so hard it woke up my wife
I laughed, but its because I am singularly aware that ebay is basically a den of thieves..... I stay out of it unless I know the seller personally.
