Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

DrPete posted it in thread as an expression of "I don't get it", kind of like the bunny with a pancake on its head. I've been waiting for a chance to post it myself. Now it's your turn.

Make sure that you register that with the UCI. We don't want to be reading about you and a "positive" on cyclingnews...

System Six full SI...Dura Ace. $325. You gotta know the right people and be a good enough rider.

The last time I paid retail was when I was a kid. My Dad found out and sent me to my room.

I wish you lived near me. I could make a nice part-time living off of your bike habit.

If you think the money you could make off my bicycle purchases constitutes a 'nice living', you can't afford to live near me. Actually my total bike schwag expenditures for 2005 and 2006 will be under $10K, and I'm pretty much set for 2007. There are Serottas that cost more than that : ).

Well....if we work on the first part (knowing the right people), can we let the second part slide a bit?

Part-time...try reading.

Since I own two companies and am about to go into a partnership to buy another, I think I can survive.

...and still have time to do bikes for fun.

Yeah, but you're the one who implied that dropping < $10K on bicycles was some outlandish spending extravagance, following that up with this crack about how 'I haven't paid retail in years'. Congratulations. You'd fit right in here in NY whether you could afford to live here or not. I'm wondering if I can afford to live here anymore myself. Hey, maybe you could come here and give me smart shopper seminars.

Of course you can buy class. It's just cheaper if you display it in public regardless of income level. But since BF seems to be a relatively class-free environment in general, that seems rather pointless here. Just ask Euro. Remember him?

I think every cyclist on BF should try to be a top 1000 cyclist in their home town. I'm working on that for Chester, NY (pop. approx. 10,000).
