Trainer Help Please
I was wondering which trainer would be best for me without breaking the bank. I have no need for all that crap that shows up on your cpu like youre riding a real race, thats just superfluous in my opinion. Anyways, I read a review on here praising the Nashbar Fluid Trainer which is now 129.00 + a 10% off coupon. https://www.nashbar.com/profile.cfm?c...g%20Essentials And there is also this one as well: https://www.nashbar.com/profile.cfm?c...g%20Essentials
I have heard that the fluid trainers offer better, more "road like" feel if you will. The other question I have is that I am by no means a small rider at 6'4 and 230 lbs and I want to make sure that both of these will be alright for me. Thanks a lot, if there are other suggestions, thatd be great too!
Thanks,
Matt

I am 6'4" and 200, my Nashbar Wattmaster holds me just fine. Superfluous read-outs and all...
The fluid rides pretty well.

Trainers suck.. period... spend the money on winter cycling gear and go outside .. That's my suggestion. I gave up on trainers this year and have been perfectly happy outside, although it hasn't gotten below low 30's yet. I've got more layers still! Bring it on!

I would try and find reviews on the unit and see if there have been people having problems with fluid leakage with the resistance units. If the fluid unit is reliable, that would work fine for your workouts provided that you don't put out huge amounts of power for sprints and such. You'll lose out on things like a huge flywheel and super-thick tubing, but this will be fine if you want to hop on and spin for a hour.
The mag unit may be louder than the fluid units and the resistance builds up in a non-road like way, linearly, instead of a progressive hyperbolic? buildup like you get with wind and fluid. It's a nicety, but totally unnecessary.
