Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Especially if they don't know the difference between a custom fit and an over-the-coiunter fit. Indeed, a custom fit will give you a far better bike if you're in the 10% of the population with weird body dimensions.

If you're in the normal catagory the custom frame will have exactly the same dimensions as the over-the-counter frame. But then you could probably ask most framemakers to find that one out.

So much of this discussion is tired old hash. But this little gem I quoted...(whoo boy!)

Now I will spend the first part of the year trying to unlock the secrets of ceramic frogs.

First of all: How in the hell do you use them?

Like other instances, those who don't have one, or can't afford one, don't like it. Take a look at patendcad, for example. He *hates* assos and likes pearl. If money weren't an issue, would he think the same?

Have a great 2007. Let's see if you can beat your average 35 posts a day to 50 for the new year?
While your cleverness is overwhelming (DrPoser? Did you come up with that all by yourself? Wow!) I was just making a joke about the extremely high price of the Serotta. Sure, I might be missing out on something that I'd otherwise appreciate if I had $7000 plus to spend on a frame... Maybe, but oh well. I won't be finding out any time soon.

Have a great 2007. Let's see if you can come up with something less pathetic to do than track other members' posts per day (and inaccurately at that).

fuzzy logic and either a lack of reading comprehension, or a short term memory issue.

patentcad specifcally stated that 1. he didn't have much PI gear and 2. he's git his system for winter down, and that he didn't see any need to change it.

it's not about the money.

I'll nominate the Francesco Moser "Leader AX" for world's greatest steel frame bike. Still looking to find a well preserved one in 52cm that I can afford.

There is no best bike. All the bikes listed are 1. road bikes 2. performance bikes 3. variations of the same thing. Instead start a debate on the best cycling inovation, how we go from this:

to the current bikes or from single speed to mulit-geared. How about mountain bikes, they have easily made the most progress from inception.

That's only the best bike in the world if you have good sense and more intelligence than money.

Now, now Dr. Pete no use getting snotty just cause someone else starts it. You're supposed to have this calm view of the world buffered by an overwhelming job security.

You really do need to ride a Merckx steel frame. Another really great frame though really underrated is the Basso.

Remember that Merckx frames are measured c-c so this one is really a 54.

It now sports Ultegra all round. It wasn't built for me but fits nicely. A very comfy bike and I can still ride faster than most carbon fibre afficianado's.
