Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

E-Bay auction of Orbea

By description this guy is selling a road bike which is not a cheap one by any means and as described he is a self proclaimed MTB. Why would he buy this bike first if he didn't really want it or someone buy something this nice for someone without having an inkling they ride road bikes?

His rating is a 3 at 100% and last transaction in Feb. of 06' from the buyer.

Maybe I am a little skeptical but looks legit. Maybe stolen as well. Who knows?

According to your logic, it's priced way too high. After all, it's a carbon frame and you say that they are all the same with different badges...

If he's got the box and packaging, I doubt it'd be stolen..

Quick, Someone offer him $2000.00 and see if he ends the auction now. Maybe he needs some cash.

Besides we have forum members on here that think every ebay bike auction ends early.

Yes, sellers who end auctions early are pond scum.

Never said that..............the interpretation is that an Orbea is a high priced bike not a el-cheapo. And yes, probably made in the same Taiwanese factory as a Pedal Force and by the same folks.

There was an exact bike on ebay 4 weeks ago, where a friend with a longer feedback history was selling it for the owner. They bought the frame and built it up. The bike had to be listed 3 times before finally being sold at around 2400 for the complete bike built with DA and Ksyrium ES.

My Orbea was delivered to the LBS completely unassembled, the LBS then assembled the bike. I was told that this was how Orbea shipped there bikes from the factory. I was actually at the LBS when the box was opened so saw all the parts neatly packaged myself.

Different grade of CF, different molds, different manufacturer... probably not.

Back to your original question. Write the person a question and ask for their phone number or if local pickup within 3 days of the auction is OK and payment at that time. See what kind of answer you get. You get an excuse or shipping only then I'd worry about it. Or even send them a question saying you live in Tucson and would like to look at it before bidding. See what answers you get.

NEVER EVER send money Western Union. Even Ebay warns against it.

I saw a bike advertised on RBR classifieds, listed as being in NYC. When I inquired about local pick up, suddenly the bike was in London, and he wanted WU as payment and if I could send it tomorrow he would ship the bike... I had only asked about it because it had fraud written all over it in the first place with way too low a price.

Yeah, but would they sell it to you in that condition? Most high end manufacturers require their dealers to assemble the bike before selling. Were the components in ziplock bags like in the ebay listing?

Since your the bike expert on all levels...............tell me where it is actually made and why you think it is better than any other carbon bike made. That's what I thought. Are you a factory inspector who inspects the production facility of these frames......think not. You must have an Orbea and feel offended.

My point was not anything to do with the pricing on E-Bay. It seemed odd he would have such a nice bike either bought by himself or by someone and fact he does not ride roadbikes. Plus with his low rating I made a statement that either he received it as a gift (a damn nice one in my opinion) or he found a dock at a warehouse where there was an Orbea sitting waiting to be taken in and he just lifted it. The last I was being kinda funny about none the less.

Glad to know there are such informed folks like yourself out there. Next time I dismantle a clandestine lab I will call or e-mail you first to make sure I am doing it right since I have only done a few hundred in my job!

NEVER NEVER NEVER send money western union!!!! Not only was that a big mistake, it was a STUPID mistake. Have you never heard of the Western Union scam??? ALWAYS pay with paypal and use a credit card. If it gets fishy or you don't receive your item you just cancel the transaction...........That simple.

I'm glad you didn't get defensive about not knowing jackpoop about where and how carbon frames are produced.
Orbeas are made in Spain and NO I do not have an Orbea. Personally, I think they are cobbled together by a bunch of drunk Spaniards. And the new Orca...blech!
My post actually harkened back to your original idiocy stating that ALL carbon frames are made in Taiwan and that they were all the same, just rebadged with corporations names. It's pretty common knowledge, or so we all believed, that some bikes are actually made in places other than Taiwan. Evidently, Wisconsin is now in the Far East, as you insinuated that Treks were made there.

You really aren't as smart as you think you are...
If you don't know something, don't speak. As old honest Abe said, "Tis better to be silent and be thought a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt."

If can't guess what I ride by my screen name, then.... Yeah, and it's made in Taiwan...

Really could not give a rats a$$ what you think nor do I care where any bike frame is really made. Apparently you read too much into a post. Shallow Hal you will be known to me. Now go rack the reuter for I am sure that's all the action you probably see.

And actually said probably made there..............there is an adjustment for error in that wording but guess you aren't too bright to figure that one out.
