Don't want to burst your bubble... just want to give you a reality check. Cuz when I hurt my wrist I also came onto bikeforums declaring that it would be a 2 week recovery .

I'm glad you survived. . . count your blessings as it could have been worse. Your situation sounds exactly identical to this: https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...threadid=25910
I hope everything is resolved to your satisfaction - bike and body.

Glad to hear you survived the cruise missile strike. Yikes!
If the driver can't safely operate a car anymore, we should hope that this incident will end her driving days and be thankful that she didn't kill anybody. (That we know of.... )

So I saw a orthopedist today.
The doc said it looked suspicious and wanted to cast my arm for three months. THREE MONTHS!!! I thought that was bull$hit, and told the doctor "no way!" unless he was 100% certain that there was a major break, which he was not. I myself doubt that the bone is badly broken considering that the pain is not so bad... not nearly as bad as a bike race at least! So tommorow morning I will get an MRI scan of my hand done, which will provide a clearer picture of any potential dammage than the x-rays did. I am optimistic that there is nothing seriously wrong with me, that I won't need a cast for any prolonged time period (let alone three months...) and that I'll be riding again this weekend. If I can't ride this summer, I just might accidentally trip and fall out of a ten story window.
On a separate note, I do seem to have nerve dammage, which is a separate issue from any potential broken bones. It's nothing that would prevent or hamper me from riding. My thumb has been totally numb for about 72 hours so far. The doctor says that there isn't really anthing I can do about it, and that the nerves may come back at some point (could be soon, could be a long time) or they may not. Either way, I'm not going to flip out over having to have a numb thumb... it is kind of weird though.

Shoot, I'd be freakin'! All that gripping I do when I'm grabbing the brakes, especially when a car turns in front of me, or if someone jumps into my lane without warning, etc... if I couldn't feel the thumb, I don't know what I'd do.
Sue that lady. It sounds like you've got some issues to deal with that may be long-lasting.

Hey, sorry for the mishap, that really is a bummer. Cycling is such a dangerous sport, and even when you're on the constant lookout for cars, there's always going to be a threat.
As for the damage, I say push the woman/insurance company really hard for a brand new bike!!!!! Don't settle for new parts. Get a brand new frame. Start from scratch.

Agree with that; push the insurance company to replace the bike. You said "dented chainstay" but you can also truthfully say "major structural damage." It's not like a dented fender or door panel on a car. Make them understand that that's the part that holds the wheel to the bike and it just can't be pounded out.
