Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Wilier Cento - Any others as beautifull?

Hey all,

This is my first posting on BF so be gentle. I can tell the bluff old traditionalists are already stampeding towards my door with burning bits of wood in hand, but I can't help it! I think the lines of the Wilier Cento are gorgeous, it's now my screensaver and desktop.

My question is, are there any other bikes out there as nice as the Cento? I've looked at the Spesh S-Works tarmac and until I saw the Wilier that was my favourite bike. I'm looking for a full carbon sloper with distinctive lines and the Wilier fits the bill perfectly. I've also seen the Orbea Orca which is another stunner.

I'm asking all this because I'm looking at building a new bike for summer. This will be my once in a lifetime bike as the next stop is marriage and kids (although after dropping all the dough I have on the Wilier my g/f may do some home surgery on the little general).

Anyway, can anyone else point me in the direction of something as stunning as the Cento?

Thanks.

The '07 Orca has the Wilier beat for looks hands-down.

Since the OP didn't see fit to post a photo, I looked it up. Due to the eye-searing paintjob I just subjected myself to, and the lengthy recovery I anticipate from this visual ambush, I won't be posting it, either.

Another option with the same lovely curves is the Schwinn Sting Ray. They should be coming out with a "Cento" edition pretty soon.

Actually a couple guys I know just bought Orcas and they got great deals on them. I doubt that Wiliers are getting discounted. Good luck with the bike, marriage and kids - I went through the same scenario decades ago. We still have the pair of matched Motobecane Grand Jubilees that my wife and I bought just before we were married.

all one really needs to do is turn their back to the Cento, and point in any direction.

Well, since this Wilier was given the nod of "worlds most stunning" in the most recent Blackwell list, I guess not.

Wilier's look much better without the team colors. These frames are 950g with a pretty stiff BB.
They need a better graphic package. The frame is remiscent of the Serotta retro bike.
Not a big name in the US, but the company is over 100 years old (that's what the Cento is for).

I'd buy a Pinarello the second they dropped the Onda gimmick.

Yeah, definitely not one for weight savings, considering the mandatory gold chains and massive tufts of chest hair poking through the jersey required to ride it.
