Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Need help,please. 27 1/8 vs 27 1/4 wheels

I built my first single speed (not fixed) the bike is an old Fuji it originally came with 27 1/8 wheels, the spokes are all rusted so I replacing the wheels. The only wheels I can find are 27 1/4 is there that much of a difference ? The fat tire is kinda look goofy on the 27 1/4.
Let me ask this can I mount a 27 1/8 tire on a 27 1/4 rim. If I do what are the on consequences if any ? Any feed would be greatly appreciated

Yes you can mount a 1 1/8" tire to a 1 1/4" rim. I've done it, looks pretty good depending on the true width of the rim. Too wide of rim/too narrow of tire does increase the chance of rim damage from the side since less tire to protect it. Haven't had that problem yet though.

Having switched from my 1-1/4 Fuji to 1-1/8 Trek last summer, I didn't really notice any difference. I'm sure there's a little bit, but I wouldn't call it noticeable. There's probably bigger differences between tires of the same size with different tread profiles. 1-1/4 are a bit in shorter supply and at least at my LBS, cost some more.
