In my first race, a Cat 4/5 mix, I was dropped. It's not that bad, quite a few others were dropped too. Looking back, I would have learnt more by finding a local training series. The training races are still quick but they have a slightly more inviting/relaxed feel. There are ussually different levels too (i.e., A, B,C,D...etc.). Some training races have a "novice" race for absolute beginners.
