Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Giro Roc Loc - Where to buy a replacement?

I've had my Giro Pneumo since October of 2005, and the Roc Loc it has steadily been going downhill. First the long tabs that connect the main piece of the roc loc to the middle top of the helmet broke off, one by one (6-7 months in between) and then the black piece with ridges that slides inbetween the two locks broke, so that it isn't nearly as adjustable as it once was.

So while it should've been obvious to replace the roc loc a year ago once the first tab broke, I waited until the 2nd tab and the locking mechanism broke to look for a replacement. And it hasn't been easy. I've emailed giro a few days ago but haven't gotten a response. I bought what looked like a good replacement Roc Loc 3.3 from WeberSports online. But when I got it it was way too small for my head. My Pneumo is a size medium, but when I hooked up the replacement Roc Loc, I had to keep it adjusted all the way out, and it barely fit on my head, and no where near under the back of my head. Their customer service was great, and said that they'd take it back no problem, but added that all roc locs are the same size. well that's just impossible, since the old one fit, and this one didn't.

So my question is where can I buy a replacement? I've called all the local bike shops and none can even order me a replacement. looking online comes up with very little in the way of results, and WeberSports was the only American company online that seemed to sell them. I hope to have it fixed by weekened after this one for my race, so I don't have to use my backup.

It's frustrating :\

Probably because you have Roc Loc 4 on your helmet.

I'd bet Giro would say that if the helet has seen enough use to wear out the Roc LOc mechanism, the entire helmet should be replaced for safety considerations.

Satisfies both the in house lawyers and the Marketing Department.

Mine broke in the same place too. I think it's new helmet time though I've worn it all winter with a hat underneath.

update: emailed Giro and they're sending me a replacement, without me having to send them the broken one. hopefully it'll be this easy when I need my helmet replaced.

I've had great luck with Giro as far as helmit replacement. I had a small piece of the plastic outside cover coming loose and they replaced the whole helmet no questions asked. Great Job Giro.
