Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Look Pedals

I have a pair of Look type pedals and seem to have a hard time unclipping, i have loosened the tightrning screw as far as it will go and not fall out. I has some spd before but these came on my new road bike and seemed to be better suited for the fast new road bike.... thanks for the help

What kind? I have the 5.1's and I agree with you that they're a bi_ch to get out of. All I can say is, it helps somewhat after they're broken in a bit (and the cleats have worn in). Also, allow plenty of speed as you're unclipping...and don't let those unfamiliar with clipless pedals try out your bike.

I have the 5.1s as well and they do seem to be tough to clip out of. Is this unique to the 5.1 or are all higher end look pedals like this? When I'm clipped in I love them. Good float and good solid feeling in general.

I have the PP296 which were at or near their top of the line until fairly recently. I get in and out very easily so I guess the 5.1's might be just harder to unclip. I've been using Looks since 1990 and have always found them to be easy.

FWIW I just rode my old style Campy SG Record clipless pedals for a few miles. Now, talk about hard to get out of....

I have the PP247 and PP337 and have no problems at all.
Must be a "special" characteristic of the 5.1's.

You can try turning the rear of the cleat out just a little(Not enough to change foot position, just a couple of mm), then it will release sooner so your foot/leg is still in strong postion.
