Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

New build under way - Fuji Team Issue

I just got home from the bike shop with a nice pretty new toy in hand. It is a 2006 Fuji Team Issue frameset. I'm going to take a couple of minutes to weigh the frame then I'll procede to stripping down my Blue for the components then get started building it.

Here is what I have so far.

Here is a nice shot of the bottom bracket area, very beefy looking!

So LowCel, have the people on this board convinced you to go tubular with this build?

I'm very seriously thinking about going with tubular racing wheels. I'll stick with my PowerTap laced to an open pro for training. Then again, most of my training miles will be on my IF anyway.

Thanks. I just finished stripping down the Blue, getting ready to start building up the Fuji now. Hopefully I'll have it done in a few hours.

Oh yeah, here is the weight of the frame/fork/headset. It weighs 150 grams less than the Blue it is replacing.

Well now I think there is no choice but to use that saddle. Couldn't be more perfect unless it doesn't fit your rear.

Just out of curiousity, what year and rider did Fuji win a World Championship race?

I'm going to be using an SLR saddle on it.

I really liked the Blue I just think that I will enjoy carbon more. I really enjoyed riding the Giant TCR composite I used to have. I've been looking around at carbon frames for a while now. When I came across the opportunity to get this one I just couldn't pass it up, it was too good of a deal.

nice

My '05 Carbon Team issue just faced an untimely death in a race so I am hoping I can get that frame through the team as my crash replacement frame. Shes a beaut. Also, I beleive one of the ladies on team Nurenburger won the road race in the '05 worlds, thus prompting Fuji to ake that paint job in '06. Keep the pics coming.

That paint scheme is way rare. Please protect her.

If you need some ideas for wheels, here's Judith Arndt's fuji in wc colors:

Here is a quick picture I took, doesn't have the Spinergy's on it yet. I'll get some better pictures of it later. Right now it's time to clean up a little then set down and relax a bit.

Sorry it took so long to build it up, I kept getting interrupted by phone calls and dinner. It still took under three hours from start to finish so I guess it wasn't too bad.

Was racing in the Pro 1,2 race in Greenville SC and about 14 miles into the race someone hit a pothole and flipped off his bike taking two other guys out then me after which someone must have run over my seat stay as it was cracked in half once I finally got untangled and was able to asses the damage. Oddly enough my zipp wasnt harmed, but my fuji met her demise. Pretty expensive and bad day to start the season off with.

Anthony, as my wife keeps telling me. "Step away from the keyboard, you have an addiction."

And how far are you from St Albans? I may race it on 06/02, you in?

16.57 pounds. Not quite as light as I was hoping but considering it has Centaur brifters, brakes, and rear derailleur it isn't too bad. I wouldn't mind getting it down to below 16 pounds but I'm not too worried about it.

Thanks!

A good friend of mine is putting on that race. I'm hoping to do it this year. It is the day before one of my priority mountain bike races so it is definite. I'll have to wait and see how I feel. I only live about 35 minutes from there.
