Do you think Lance Armstrong could have won his last TDF if he was riding a GM Denali
You know about the under $200 bike at Walmart? What if Lance used that during his 2005 TDF? Let's say he swapped out the pedals to clipless ones and that's all. I know people say the bike doesn't matter much but we are talking about a bike that costs less than the handlebars of pro bikes....the opposite extremes of comparison. Riding for 5 hrs a day, do you think it would have been too much of an equipment deficit to cause him to lose the TDF? That would be awesome if he beat out everyone on an almost 30lb bike.

Making a kilometer blurry
It wouldn't hold up for the power over time. Braking on descents is a scary thought too. It's pretty ridiculously heavy as well.
I think it's feasible on a $1000 bike, for the road stages anyway.

The bike doesn't matter much to recreational riders, but it matters a lot in a pro race where seconds count.

Maybe he trains on the Denali 'til he reaches the same performance of his compadres, then rides the TdF on his Trek machine. That could be why he wins.

wow, I think he would get lucky to place in the top 100 with a crap 30 pound bike. The differnce would be huge.

Hmmmm.... 29 lb bike with 7 speed Revo twist shifters, Tourney RD, steel fork, flexy 28X38X48 170mm cranks, flexy wheels, 700 x 28c tires... nah.

hellz no...haha if you want to ride the biggest piece known to be created by man then hop on one of those..Someone brought it in to our shop to get repaired and I had the great experience to test ride it when it was done..Lance would be better running in the tour then riding that poor excuse for a bicycle. You know its just so bad it makes me upset to thnk that they let people out on those Gah!

Back when I was a full time racer, I actually rode a crappy Huffy on rainy days, especially if I was only doing a short ride. I modified it to take a real crankset & pedals, fenders, and then beat the snot out of it in the rain & snow. I would never have tried to keep up with anyone on a real bike. I used to think that Eddy would still have been faster than me if he was riding the Huffy.

Even if Lance was riding a stock/ standard issueTrek 1000 SL, he could still have won the Tour de France! With his Dura-Ace pedals and Nike cycle shoes of course.
He'd need to get the mechanics to change the chain every evening though, in case he snapped
the stock one in half I guess! The brake pads would need replacing each day in the mountains as well.
He'd need a proper TT bike though for the ITT stages and prologue.

Dude, I did win the TDF on a Denali. With one of those horseshoe medical seats and helmet with a visor on it. It was totally sweet, you should have been there.
